single mom struggling with severe depression and ptsd

Hi my name is Liz and this is my first time on here. I have been struggling with severe depression and just got daignosed wth PTSD from my counsler. I am a single mom of two kids age 11, and 5. I have also been a single mom for the past 5 years as well. I have been struggling for so long. I don't have any family to help me, and also no friends either. Ive tried taking clexa, and also wellbutrin, but neither have worked. my doctor said i should just go the the mental health clinic to get an evaluation, but it is a fist come first served bais and they don't make appts, so i stess about trying to get a babysitter to watch my children se i can get in. I have been suicidal off and on for the last couple of years, and the only thing holding me back is my children. Im just looking for some help out there.

Hi Liz,
Welcome to the forum, you have friends now. A support group in your area is another good place to find more. So sorry to hear you have been struggling for so long here are some things that have helped me.

A good idea is to have the HELP line numbers handy, so you can call someone, a live person, when your bad thoughts get going.

While you are waiting for the clinic to schedule you, try looking up "mindfulness", depression and PTSD on the internet and educate yourself on what you can do for YOU! Meds only do about 50% of the job, the rest is up to the person.

Hi Liz,

Don't give up on getting help. Take a day and go to the mental health clinic. Get there early if you can. It would truly help you. Then they probably make appointments after that.

I walk a lot. It is a good way to make friends that also walk. It really helps you to feel better about yourself. I also meditate. It helps with mindfulness and relaxing. There are many things we can do to help ourselves. And learning about your mental health is a part of it like BenotAfraid said. Be proactive about your health. We will help you here as much as we can also. There will be others with information for you.
