Depression is something I've dealt with my entire life. Most recently it's taken a new twist now coupled with anxiety. I went to see a therapist today as well as a medical doctor do to my chest pains and headaches. I'm not able to see a psychiatrist until tuesday. I always start to see a dr. And I even get a prescription for depression meds but ultimately I stop taking them and i stop going to the dr after one our two times. I truly want to get better but don't know how to wmotivate myself to stick with it. The Dr today gave me a proscription for xanax. I've never taken it before and i know people use it to get loaded. So I'm scarred to take it. I want to feel better, I want to stop being anxious but, I don't want to feel high or out of it. I guess really why I've joined and why I'm typing this is because I needed to vent and i need some support. Thank you all who read this and reply

Hi Jessid,

I take xanax too. If you have anxiety, it doesn't get you high. It just takes the anxiety away. Plus they take a lot to get loaded. It is abused, but not by people who need it. So I suggest you take as needed. Continue to see your doctor as you need to. That is the only way that you are going to get anywhere and get better. Keep trying. One day at a time. Hugs, Karen

Jessid,
Courage is persistance in the face of fear!
This time stay with your meds as perscribed, every day. See your doc and communicate with him/her about how you are feeling, even if you have to take notes to remember. This is very important! It can help recognize the need for adjustments in meds, reduction or increase or change in medication.
Only way to get better is to take care of the decease. Yes, depression is like any other decease needs to be treated as one. Gets worse as you have found out, when it is not taken care of.

Take could care of yourself, welcome to the forum and keep posting we care and this is a great outlet.

Hi, I am very familiar with concerns about taking things like xanax, ativan, and in my case klonopin. I can relate to the concerns - taking the Anti depressents is one thing, but taking those fast-acting meds seems like quite another to some of us. But we have to do what we can to help ourselves, i would rather not need it, but I am convinced that i really do need it. So for the time being I'm sticking with the plan as agreed to with the doctor.

You will have times where you dread the fact that you need treatment, we all do, everyone who has to be treated for any illness does. But on the other hand aren't we lucky to have these things available to help us?

I also worry about always needing it and not being able to stop, but I know this is the situation and it's all for a reason and I have to just accept and deal with things as they come.

Peace to all my fellow forum members!

I too sometimes get paranoid because I know I will always need the meds to keep me stable. But yes, I do appreciate the fact that there is something out there that can help me. This is when I go back to "one day at a time". It is almost suffocating when we think about it. And scarey to think we might not be able to get what we need. But try not to go there with thinking.

Peace back to you Exproud...

Hugs to all, Karen
