Hello everyone,

I am new here in this forum. First time ever joining a forum, lol! I wanted some advice on Lexapro. I just started on it today at 10 mg for panic attacks and mild depression. I have tried other anti-depressants in the past such as Pritiq & Celexa, however I had to stop them after about two weeks because it would give me terrible side effects such as severe anxiety, panic attacks, stomach pain & insomnia. So I only took klonopin at 1 mg for the last three years but my depression just got worst after a miscarriage a couple of months back. I realized the klonopin would not help me with the depression. So can anyone tell me their experience with Lexapro at the beginning of treatment? I want to make sure it's different from Celexa & Pristiq.

Thank you.
Alexandra :-)

Hi Alexandra,

And welcome to the forum. To be honest, I haven't heard of a lot of people having bad side effects on lexapro. It kind of seems like either it works or it doesn't. I am taking pristiq, and it works well for me.

Before I forget, I wanted to say how sorry I am about your miscarriage. That is a horrible thing to go through, and I am sure it is playing a huge role in your depression. I hope you are being self nurturing to yourself at this time.

I think that you will find that lexapro is a lot different from celexa and pristiq. But meds work different on different individuals. So one person may have side effects, but that doesn't mean that you will. It is basically trial and error actually.

You will probably notice any side effects within the first couple of weeks of starting the medication. Generally they go away in about two weeks. For some people they don't, and for some it is unbearable. But try to plow through them if you can. Because the end results are usually pretty good after the side effects go away.

Hang in there, and keep us posted on how you are doing on the lexapro. It is a good medication. Most people do well on it.

I hope that you start feeling good soon. Keep us posted as to what is going on. I hope that you find this thread that I started for you. I really think you get more responses with a thread of your own instead of tagging on to an old one.

Take care,

Hugs, Karen

Alexandra,

welcome to the forum! So sorry about the miscarriage, I went through a few myself.

If the lexiapro does not work for you; I have never taken it. Ask the doctor about Buspar I take 15mg 3 x's a day and it works well for me.

I wish you peace and strength.
