Does medication really help depression? Depressed for as long as I can remember. Don't want to pay for something that won't work and don't want risk making it worst. Is mediation better?

I would go to a doctor and get a diagnosis first. That is the only way to tell which would be better, to find out what is actually wrong first.

Hi. My name is Michele. I have a chemical imbalance so the only way for me to feel normal is with medication. For a year now, I've been searching for the right combination and I believe we have finally found it for me. It's been a long time and at times I've wanted to give up the medication route, but my support system encouraged me to continue seeking. I use meditation to help me deal with my depression too.
Everyone is different and medication isn't for everyone. It sure has helped me. I finally feel like myself again.
The decision to take some or not lies with you and your doctor.
Hang in there and good luck! We all care.
