To BeRock ........
My first major bout with depression was 18-years ago when my Father died, my Mother put great pressure on me (an only child), my little business was having a bad year and my ex-wife started manipulating our kids against me shortly after our divorce. I went to see a Psycologist - and specifically a female Doctor - so as not to become anti-female and maybe even get to understand better what I was doing wrong as a male.
Surprise ... the time spent was very well spent with this doctor ... and, if anything, my biggest mistake in life was in allowing others too much power in my past. Yep, and that included Mom!
My latest bout is with Advanced Prostate Cancer and the depression it has nurtured. I have twice, seen a Doctor - one who specializes in working psycologically with very serious diseases. And after the second type of chemo has not done enough, and a third (and less offensive to good cells) type - this time oral, just started 5-days ago, I need to see this doctor again.
All cases are individual and different, but if something can be handled without medication - I prefer it that way. Some things cannot be. Have you thought about asking a psychologist your questions? There are some who work on a sliding scale (for fees). My first one did and she was very good - and had a doctorates degree. The county paid for the difference.
Wishing you well!
