OK---Just got my Rx from my Dr. for my depression.    Off the Zoloft (after only 1 wk---side effects)--Starting Paxil tomorrow- 10 mg for 10 days--then 20 mg.

Anyone have any experience w Paxil (not the Paxil CR---regular Paxil)--Dr. says it takes effect quicker & has shorter half life.    Really curious--OK, you Paxil users---let me know---hopefully, something good. eyes     Thanks--Robert

I used Paxil for over a year and not CR. It worked well for me and then I started feeling emotionally numb. I didn't need a change but thought I would try something different. I can't say anything negative about it because it really helped me get my depression under control.

Hi MARYME , Randy, Psychnurse & all-- Just a quick aside. RE: Paxil- My wife (who works at the hospital)---picked up my 10 day dose of 10mg of Paxil--after 10 days i go to 20mg. Just noticed--it was generic. Pharmaxy was out of brand. Is this OK? Pharmacist says it's the same & not to worry. I always get "brand" of everything. My wife sas i'm making a big deal outta nothing. Is the generic Paxil OK???? Anyone take the generic?? AND--if --when i get my refill for 20 mg--& i then get the brand--that's OK..right??? I need some reassurance...Thanks--Robert

Hey Wotan,

I would trust the pharmacist. As far as I know (which only reading labels and looking up stuff on the net) the only difference between name brand and generic is sometimes the 'filler', the stuff that holds the table together.

Blessings!

hello all
I have never posted on a forum before but thought this would be a great place to start!
I have been taking Paxil and its generic form for 5 years now. There is no difference except the lower price for the generic form. It has literally saved my life. In the past I thought I would snap out of depression by changing my job, location, attitude, etc. I finally realized that it is a chemical imbalance that runs in our family, and even though talk therapy helped somewhat I wish I had started taking meds alot sooner. I will probably be taking them forever, and I wonder if the body builds up a resistance to a particular drug. Paxil has been great for BOTH depression and social anxiety that I suffer from, but after 5 years should I switch? I do have an appointment in September with a psychiatrist to ask this same question. Has anyone had a better experience from switching?
Again, Paxil and its generic paroxetine have worked very well for me, although I have heard horror stories from others. I requested this particular medication because I read about its effect to help anxiety. Isn't it strange that I suffer from anxiety And depression
peace, Michele
