ladies - did going on the contraceptive PILL help your anxiety? (help to level your hormones?)

i am starting to think that my hormones are increasing my anxiety.  i only say this as i am running out of options.  i suffer bad dizziness some days (most days) and my moods are SO up and down!  i also have days of such high anxiety - i feel suicidal some days.  and the feeling of doom washes over me  where ever I am and at any time, ie in the cimema, on the train, at home, etc.

i am 29 and never suffered abnormal anxiety before.  but noe this is abnormal, and i feel it all the time almost!  i am almost LOOKING OUR for it everyday and my anxiety is so hightened.

i have noted that one major change happend in my life 18 months ago.  i can off the contraceptive pill.  i had been on it for 10 years! - ages 16-26.  i then came off it when i got married (no kids yet).

maybe it has taken this long for my hormones to establish normality and maybe my normal hormones are really strong or off balance to the degree that they are making me ill (after all, I had 10 years of no REAL periods, as the pill creatres fake ones).  maybe this is the first time i have seen my true cycle and feelings?....i truly feel that I am going mad inside.

DOES ANYONE THINK THERE MAY BE A LINK?  is it possible? are hormones more powerful than we give them credit?  can they be causing all my anxiety and dizziness?  I WAS THINKING, that maybe I would go back on the pill for a month or so, to see if I get better again?

ANY VIEWS?  has this happend to anyone else?  DESPERATELY YOURS, Vikki xxxxx

Hmmmmmm, you may be onto something. Antidepressants can aleviate PMS in some women, so you might be right.

Sorry, I never could take the pill so I can't help you compare.

I bet some of the other gals will chime in here though.

Blessings!

i replied to your other post in the anxiety forum - i do think hormones play a role in mental health, and i think the effect can go both ways, stopping the pill may make you anxious or depressed, just like starting the pill may do the same... i think its just your brain reacting to a different environment of little messengers running around! who knows.... i do think switching methods has something to do with my anxiety, as i've never had a prolem with stress or anxiety before.
