Eleven years ago I had a severe bout of depression and had to be hospitalized. I was put on 40mg paxil. After a few weeks, I got much better and have stayed on it since. I have been tapering the paxil, I did 30mg for a few years, 20mg for a few years, 10mg for awhile, and most recently I tapered down to 5mg. When I got to 5mg, crap hit the fan. Anxiety and depression slapped me right in the face. This was about a month ago. Ive tried valiantly to weather the storm, but it is simply not getting any better. I was feeling a little better for about a week, but I had a nasty stomach attack that sent me to the er. The next day I started feeling horrible all over again. So here I am now, im taking 20mg paxil, which I havent taken this much in years, and I am considering updosing again to either 25 or 30mgs. I dont know if I am doing the right thing. I have a doctors appt tommorow and maybe I should ask him before I updose again. Maybe I should try another medication? Paxil is the only med I have ever taken, and im scared out of mind to try something else. Im worried about the doctor taking me off paxil (which has major discontinuation symptoms) and putting me on something else that doesnt work. Has anyone been in a similar situation as this? Does anyone have any feedback on what I should ask my doc tommorow?
