A couple weeks ago I read about what bpd is, and it hit my right away that I have all of these symptoms and now I'm pretty sure I have bpd.
I want to talk to my doctor about this but I don't want to be told to go into therapy and I also don't want this topic to be brushed off like it has been for the past few years I've attempted to seek help. I want a diagnoses so I can feel a bit less crazy about how I react to everything..
I don't know how to talk to my doctor about this. I feel like if I bring up that I think I have bpd she will just say it's all in your head, or it's just a phase like I keep getting told.
What should I do?
I'm almost 19 if that helps in any way..

hi strong-warrior. i was dx with borderline personality disorder a long ime ago. i now have the less potent form which is EUPD. (emotionally unstable personality disorder) because of forum rules i can only say that the self-harm has passed. it is a very complex disorder. manipulation, extreme neediness, self-harm, voices, psychosis, acute hospitalisations etc. for me i found therapy the best. back in the day borderline was first treated with DBT, dialectical behaviour therapy-it aint easy and is hard work but the results are amazing. everyone is using it. definitely discuss everything with your doc. it is a hard disorder to be dx with as it is akin to a few others, re: schizo-affective disorder.

i wish you well. let us know how you do. with healing compassion.

I would talk to your doctor about it, and though you don't want to hear it, therapy does help.

BPD is serious, so seeking a doctor's help is the best thing to do. Whether it be in your head or if it is just a phase, it is still effecting you.

I am sorry that the topic gets brushed off for you. That isn't right. I hope you can find a doc that is willing to help you though this. It isn't an easy endeavor.

Hang in there, welcome to the forum. I hope you do find some answers here.

Hugs, Karen...

Well, you could look up the list of Pysch doc your Insurance covers and make an appointment with one of those.

I must warn you tho. BPD is VERY close to OTHER mental disorders and is often misdiagnosed. So be very open minded, answer any questionaires they give you with complete honesty about everything!

If you are in college, check and see if there is a wellness center you can go to, some have a therapy department now.

Peace

Hey SW and WELCOME=)

I'm not terribly familiar with BPD, but wanted to lend my support to you. You've gotten some good suggestions here.

It's best IMO not to self-diagnose through the internet. Please see a doctor with the appropriate credentials to diagnose and treat you.  I hope you find the answers.

Hey strongwarrior101,
Welcome to HW forum. I really hope you continue to visit us here as everyone is very supportive & open with these type of issues. I personally worked many years with the severely mentally ill running 2 residential care facilities to assist with reintegration into "normal" society. BPD is by far a difficult e& confusing disorder. It can take years to accurately diagnosis someone with BPD.please keep that in mind while your doing research.
My concern is that you don't express within your post much confidence in your current psychiatrist. Regardless of my schooling or work experience, mental illness is prevalent within my family history. Childhood abuse is my major factor with my own issues of Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety/ Panic disorder, and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). I was 30 yrs old when I found the one psychiatrist whom I felt I could trust and honestly tell the truth to.
In my experience when your ready to address any kind of issues that are negative to your quality of life then you will look for guidance with a professional whose opinion & recommendations (regardless of what they may be) you are willing to follow and be active with your care.
Remember, many of us can look up all kinds of disorders and have many of the "signs/symptoms" described however, that doesn't mean we have this disorder. Diagnosing mental health problems is complex and really should be left to the professionals in this area.
I wish you all the luck in the world and hope everything gets better soon. Please keep us posted.
