Hi All, Need some help here..... needing some sleep!!! Took neurotin 300mg for years worked well would sleep 6 - 8 hours and wake feeling refreshed..... then this past spring it stopped working completely.... no more sleep sad , Doc put me on ambien- can fall asleep but will not stay asleep with it and insurance will only pay for 14days worth.... rest is out of my pocket, Doc wanted me to double up on it, but can't afford too. So he tried me on a sample of Restoril, but gave me warnings of possible side effects of hang over problems....... tried it one nite - hang over my bootie! Cross between a all nighter hang over and bad case of the flu took 2 days to get over!! and NO SLEEP! went back to the ambien till I ran out now up a creek. I am so tired and sleepy, but when I try to sleep I get to the twilight stage and stay there not a sleep and not awake and can't get past it...... what's been working for everyone else?

current meds

Imuran 100mg, Cymbalta 60mg, Ambien 10mg, lipitor 10mg, Allegra 180mg, guifenex 60/600

nono  Believe me,  know the feeling. I was on Ambien for about a year ad when I got a new PCP, he refused to keep me on it.

I have tried few things that have helped. Try using 2 "motion sickness" pills from  Wal Mart for $4.59. They come in 100's. Very cheap and serves purpose. If you want to, by the travel size and see if they work Another thing is that my doc said DO NOT watch TV in the bedroom on te bed. She said it cnfuses the brain, ergo, no sleep. I put music on. Ya know, Kenny Loggins, Kenny Rogers, James Taylor, Luther Vandros, may God rest his soul. So talented and gone. It helps soooth my stress so I can sleep. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the imput. Think I'll ask to try lunesta, Randy. As for the motion sickness pill, 2leftfeet - the ingredient in that is diphenhydramine which is the generic Benadryl (? sp), I have taken 75mg at a time of it and no good for sleep but sure drys out sinuses till they hurt...... and even groggier with out sleep. But Thanks.

Hello,

I have found the wonder cure for sleep, melatonin. It is safe to take nightly (I checked with my doctor) and can be bought in any health store and it's very inexpensive. I also take valerian root with it because it helps make for a restful sleep. I take it nightly because my medications have ruined my sleep, I fall asleep quickly, sleep well and don't wake up feeling groggy. It has saved my life. I haven't slept this well in years.
