Welcome to the forum.
you are not alone in this feeling of emptiness. So many of us experience it from time to time, it is part of the depression roller coaster ride.
You can make this ride smoother by using 'coping skills' along with the medication. www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/dealing-with-depression.htm
Everyones skills are different and yours will be different at different times. This is why people need to fill a 'tool box' of skills, as they say.
My go to skills are, mindfulness, meditation, walking, painting, journaling and crocheting. I also have 3 dogs to play, talk and cuddle with when hubby is not home. In the summer I garden.
Keep posting, we are here to listen and support the best we can.
