I started the thread entitled "Desperate for Help", so there are more details about me there. But is anybody else out there seemingly resistant to medication, and if so, what did you do? ECT's and the new magnetic procedure are not options for me, and for some reason, I just can't, no matter how hard I try, get mindfulness and meditation to work for me, so I am desperate to hear from anybody who is resistant to medication for depression and what you did about it? Any input extremely welcome. Thanks.

Have you tried CBT or DBT? Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Dilectible (sp) Behavior Therapy. Do you see a psychiatrist? Are you in therapy? I ask this because I totally cannot remember. I think talking with a psychiatrist or a psychologist is so helpful. There might be a combination of medications that could help you.

Have you considered an VNS? Vegas Nerve something... I cant' remember now. They put something into your nerve in your neck I think. Maybe even hypnosis??? I am sure there are other things that I don't know about. But this is all I can think of. I found a book to be really helpful called "feeling good" or aka "the new mood therapy". It is about CBT and it changes the way we look at things. The way we think. It is an older book but a good one.

I hope you find some answers.

Hugs, Karen...

Karen, I never heard of either CBT or DBT or the nerve thing. When I'm in a better frame of mind, I will do some research. I do see a psychiatrist. I was wondering about hypnosis and plan on discussing it with my psych. as soon as I can get in to see him. Thanks.

Hope some of this stuff works for you... Know that there is hope. Where there is breath, there is hope. I think Trina said that.

Have a good evening. Never give up...

Karen, do you, or anybody else who might read this, know what the "general rule of thumb" therapeutic dosage of Remeron is? I know it varies with the individual, but does anybody know how many mgs. most people who find it successful usually take? Thanks.

I have treatment resistant depression. I've tried many medications over the years.. I haven't given up going that route yet. Sometimes the meds work. I may eventually end up doing either ECT or TMS though the thought of both scares me. I'm trying to do mindfulness and meditation too. Guided meditation works the best for me. I haven't quite go mindfulness down yet. I wish I had some suggestions for you but i really don't...yet. I can tell you that coming here to talk helps me a lot.

I have a treatment resistant type of depression myself. It can be very frustrating for me when I take the same medicine as another and only get lifted enough to feel as though I am always still just in the beginning stages of healing; while another feels 'wonderful!'

Depression treatment is very complicated for myself for some unknown reasons; but also for some known and theorized reasons. One of the know reasons is food sensitivities that I have; which definitely exasperate my depression and anxiety. Another theorized reason is a genetic gene mutation; I found out about which has to do with methylation pathways that is compromised with me. One of those issues is B12 and folate's inability to properly get transported and assist my brain in its chemicals. Giving my brain less for the medicine to work with.

It is all very complicated; and there can be many variants that effect our treatments.

Keep looking for answers; and don't give up. Does depression run in your family?

KChrispcat & Matina, thanks for the input. Yes, depression does run in my family. My sister has suffered from clinical depression for many years and has had some very serious, debilitating episodes in the past. Thank God, right now, and for some time now, hers has been under control with a combination of meds. Unfortunately, those meds don't work for me, or they haven't in quite some time although in the past, they did. For about 5+ months now, almost everything I've tried to take has been like poison to my system. Violently bad reactions - such as creating an anxiety level that's through the roof, incapacitating depression that makes me almost totally non-functional, and it happens within a matter of hours of my taking the meds. That's why it's been so hard these past 5 months or so to control my depression & anxiety. Mine is a complicated situation. I saw my psych. today & he kept me on Remeron, added a medicine called Lamictal which I am to start tonight, and he changed me from Lorazepam (Ativan) to Klonipin (sp). I'm going to start a thread for input on Lamictal so I can hopefully get some info. on it. I'm just praying to God that this works because I have been in such a very bad way. It means a lot that you all respond to my posts and give me input. I will be forever grateful.
