I want to post for any one who has very, very severe heartburn, nausea and pain due to acid refulx. You need to see an esophogeal specialist NOT just a gastro doctor. A general gastro doctor will not be able to help you very much. I sufferred for years with severe heart burn, nausea, and esophogeal spasms which also gave me severe chest pains in addition to the nausea. My then gastro doctor prescribed 20 milligrams of nexium twice a day. It did not help. He told me to take milk of magnesia also. That did not help.
I finally realized I needed to look for an esophogeal specialist not knowing if there was such a doctor. Thankfully, I found Doctor
Doctor prescribed several tests, endoscopy, motility, and barium. it was discovered I had Barret's esophogus, caused by my sphincter now closing. I could have elected to have surgery to close the sphincter or go on 40 milligrams of nexium taken twice a day. I chose the medication and it solved the problem. If your Barretts is more sever than mine he does ablation surgery which gets rid of it.
I have lived nausea and pain free for six years thanks to Doctor Smith's care. Go to Temple Hospital website and search for Doctor and all of the different treatments he does for the esophogus.
I still suffer from deep depression, and that is why I found this web site, but it is not caused by a physical condition. I am thankful I had the physical pain eliminated in my life by Dr.
