Wednesday Smiler β Oct 12
***********************************
Have you ever wondered?
In 1937 President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed October 12th (today) as the official date for the annual holiday of Columbus Day.
So what happened?
In 1971, Congress, hoping to create a guaranteed three-day weekend, moved the date to the second Monday of October.
Stuff you didn't know you didn't know!
To the delight of penny-pinchers, acidity in ketchup makes it an inexpensive cleanser and polisher, especially for metals.
For pots and pans, coat the object, let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes, and then rinse it off. Ketchup is also highly effective on brass and copper...but don't use on silverware.
Because of its effectiveness on metals, some frugal car owners shine the outside of their vehicles with this condiment.
Tomato ketchup is a good conditioner for the hair. It also helps get the greenish tinge that some blonde haired people get after swimming in water with chlorine.
Just a groaner
That's it for today...Wheel ketchup smother thyme

Tomato sauce, huh? Glad it's good for something, I've never liked eating it!
Hope all are well, I'm doing better on the motivation today, yay!
(Although I must admit, been trying to "make a dent" in this room for 3 months now! Despite taking out at least 15 boxes of books and papers, still doesn't look like anything has changed. Guess I'm too good at keeping things consolidated tightly in closets, cupboards, and drawers.)

Hope everyone is well. Nice day here.
Having a lot of difficulty with sleep still -- it is really hard to keep going during the day. I feel like a whiner --- sorry.
Lynwood- having just moved, I know what it is like to go through closets, drawers, etc. Now that we've been in the house a few months, I see everything filling up again!
Take care!

17 days until Halloween

Have you ever wondered?
The cornerstone of the White House was laid on October 13, 1792.
Although George Washington helped to choose the site for the residence while he was president, he never lived at the famous house.
There are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels to accommodate all the people who live in, work in, and visit the White House. .
Did you know
Sheep were grazing in Central Park until 1934, when they were moved during the Great Depression for fear they would be eaten

Good morning all!!!
Chilly here, looks like rain. I hope it doesn't snow... Getting that time of year.
Joyce, loved the smilers and the information. The white house is huge. 35 bathrooms. I wonder how many maids.
Jamie, I am glad you had a good day. F27, Lynnwood and Hope, I hope you all are having a good day.
Hugs to all...

Cooler temps and less hours of daylight bringing out the fall colors all around. The mums are in full bloom. Red, yellow, bronze, purple. The wheat celosia with it's purple spikes are still attracting bees and the few butterflies still around. The berries of the New England false grape and Virginia creeper are adding their deep purple hues. Leaves are showing orange and red on the vines and the trees. My pyracanthis (sp?) is loaded with bright orange berries as well! Lest I forget, the pansies are blooming like crazy, too! My big Montauk daisies are in full swing and the new smaller plants are loaded with buds still waiting their turn. In the midst of all of these 'standard' fall colors, the 'blue' of the asters and pulmonaria are quite stunning.
A neighbor gave me two more shepherds' hooks which I will use to hang the suet cakes for the birds. The sunflower seeds are nearly all eaten up now! I'll leave the 'dead' ones standing for now, they sort of go with the rest of the Halloween decorations.
I can't help myself! I'm already planning decorations for the next holiday. There really isn't much to decorate with outdoors for Thanksgiving, but I'll get creative and have something!

They started the White House after a spirited argument as to where the capitol should be.
Washington was chosen due to its centrality, lack of development, and lack of political partisans, despite the land being largely a swamp.
Just did a few hours tutoring. Frustrating--worked with a student who did not seem to understand essay organization or citation style. Grrrr.
Cool here--need to run more errands. Be well friends.

There are more fake flamingos in the world than real flamingos.
Have you ever wondered?
According to a recent survey, the most popular name for a dog is Max. Other popular names include Molly, Sam, Zach, and Maggie.
_______________
Dogs may not have as many taste buds as we do (they have about
1,700 on their tongues, while we humans have about
9,000),
They have over 200 million scent receptors in their noses (we have only 5 million) so itβs important that their food smells good and tastes good.

The dogs sweater was a fashion furpaw. Even pets have fashion sense. Hopefully the puparazzi wasn't watching.

I am a vegetable.
I've lived in the same place for over 30 years. While I have an odd address, I learned LONG ago how to write it so food/package delivery, postal workers, etc. could find me.
This week has been utter H E L L! Trying to receive a package, but the service says my address doesn't exist. Told them it again and again, offering multiple options of how to read/write it; they can't get it right. They lie about
it being on the truck for delivery. More emails, computer chats, and phone calls than I care to think about
.
Last night I gave up. Waving the white flag of surrender. Decided not to care (or to try not to care). Whatever it takes. Drugs, alcohol, ice cream, whatever. Make me a non-caring vegetable, since that's how I'm being treated. I am the egg-man. I am a mushroom, keep me in the dark and feed me s h i t.
My package is probably riding around all over this city of 4 million plus, and it can do so forever!
Stress, of course, triggers everything else! Ha! My back is SO SORE today from being so tight yesterday. Trying to keep my mind quiet. Don't need that anger to turn inward into depression. Sigh.

Heheheh .... you're wrong Lynnwood, you only think you live where you live because of The Matrix.
After reading your post I have an intense desire for an ice cream sundae with morphine cognac sauce.

I'll stick with the morphine cognac sauce. The dependency risk with mint chocolate chip is too high. ;-)

Lynwood - I can imagine how frustrated you are! I have been going around and round with insurance co.and dr. about
getting a medicine I need. So tiring and frustrating.
Nice day here, sunnny and warm. Baked the first pumpkin pie of the season!
Jamie, hope you feel a little better.
