Hello all. Got grandson's costume finished Tuesday morning! Hair and all! So glad he still wants to go out trick or treating!

Met my son at the courthouse today for the custody and visitation hearing. He gets pretty much what he has now but, gave her every Christmas Day! I'm a bit disappointed by that, but, it's his decision.

Took down the Halloween decorations and put up the Thanksgiving ones. Where the courthouse is it was cold and looking like snow, but, here at the shore it was partly sunny and rather warm! I for one am glad I live here!

"Candy corn" lights on the arch now. I took 'chair back covers' with turkeys and pilgrims on them and put them over the tops of 3 trellises on the street side of the house. Plenty of little scare crows and 'turkey picks' stuffed into flower pots all around and the cornecopia filled on the little table by the front door. I had to remind myself that everything I put out I have to take down so I didn't go too crazy this year!

Hope everyone has a peaceful day.

Hello this Thursday
Sorry you've got dreary weather, Karen. Expecting two days in the 70's here.
You might want to move to Pennsylvania

Did You Know

The name of the first menthol cigarette in the United States was "Spud."

During the First World War, cigarettes were handed out to soldiers along with their rations

A monkey was once tried and convicted for smoking a cigarette in South Bend, Indiana
It happened back in 1924. The strict laws of the state meant that smoking was illegal, no questions about…even if you were a monkey.

I use to smoke menthols. I smoked Kool's for 25 years. I smoke Marlboro lights now.

It's crazy that a monkey got convicted. You would think they would convict whoever gave the cigarette to the monkey. Ha Ha....

Enjoy your 70 degrees. Would be nice if it was here too, but it is in the 40's. I hope you have a wonderful day Joyce.

Hugs, Karen...

Delightfully warm today...got to use the clothesline again! Not many of these days left for the year!

Wow! My first cig was a Tareton (sp?) "I'd rather fight than switch." yikes! Then, I did switch, to Newport for years. Then, went to what my parents were smoking...Benson & Hedges. Now, Pall Mall light 100's. Always the 'longs'. I've been a 'pack a day' for too many years, but at least I'm not going up!

Yesterday was the anniversary of my divorce...tomorrow is the anniversary of my Mom's death. Two days apart. Still gets to me.

Daughter and grandson are pet sitting tonight and I'll have the house all to myself (well, plus our pets). Think I'll put some of MY music on and rock the night away! ha ha

Rock and Roll Pitmom!!! I smoke 100's too. The short ones are too strong for me.

Trina, it is nice to read your post. I hope you had a good nap with the dogs. Jasmine always goes to bed when I do so she takes naps with me.

Have a good day all. Jamie should be getting up soon to greet his day!

So, this is my life:

Oct 6th, found out our condo mgmt company failed to send the county a copy of our garbage collection contract, so all 116 units have tax bills of over $216 rather than the $31 they are supposed to be. Immediately reported it to the mgmt company. After a month, they got nowhere on figuring out who in city hall to contact.

This morning, I looked at the city website, sent one, yes ONE, email, and found the right person. Sent a second email w/copies of the contracts, it's all fixed.

So why don't they pay ME??? Grrr. I hate when I have to do someone else's job for them, and I hate when it gets under my skin and riles me up. Especially when my SO's are all out of town and y'all get to listen to me!!

Thanks!

Lynnwood,

I am glad you got the garbage pick up figured out. You helped a lot of people. I hope you can feel happy about that. I know it is frustrating doing someone else's work. You are a wonderful person.

Hey Jamie, Hope your sis's hip feels better soon. I started at thirteen too. Long time ago.

Have a good day all...

Not in the best of moods this Friday....

My eldest son told me that he quit his job!
He wants to use that time to expand his computer programming skills fpr a better job.
( Hope he didn't 'lose' his current job because he hit a deer in a company vehicle).

~ Joyce

Did You Know
Every continent has a city called Rome—except Antarctica.

There is a place called Hell in Michigan. It is about 50 miles from Detroit.

You can even send a postcard from Hell. There is a small town located in the Cayman Islands called "Hell." They have a post office

I am sorry your son quit his job. I hope what he is doing will help him get a better job. Only time will tell.

I have heard of Hell Michigan. We had a gentleman that walked across the state and I think he was heading to Hell. We talked to him for a moment when he walked by. It was interesting.

Thanks for sharing Joyce, I find your posts very interesting. Have a great day!

If you're going through Hell, keep going!

So, although I'm usually quite a mess on this, the anniversary of my Mother's death, I tried to keep busy and remember that it is also my cousin's birthday, my nephew's birthday and my niece's birthday.

Did some garden clean up (weather is great again today!), made the dog bed finally (turned out nice!), played with the dogs a lot, got most of the paperwork done for help with my Medicare premium, and tidied up the living room a bit!

Will have my grand daughter tonight, too!

The butterfly weed and pineapple sage are still blooming! The leaves are changing and falling and it smells absolutely wonderful outside!

Hope everyone is having a peaceful day.

Hello this Saturday

Karen...that's quite a memory about talking to that gentleman who was walking
Lynn, twice going to 'hell'...hope you had 'fun'
Pitmom, I wish you could share the lovely aroma you have. Lucky gal
Jamie, GREAT facts about snakes. I'll search that subject...perhaps for St. Patrick's day

Did You Know
…......... you probably already do

It is "Daylight Saving Time" (singular), not "Daylight-Savings Time" (hyphen and plural ).

Until recently, losing an hour of daylight in the fall presented a problem for the candy industry. That’s because Daylight Saving Time traditionally ended on the last Sunday in October, before Halloween night.

Intense lobbying to push back the date went on for decades. . A law extending DST into November finally went into effect in 2007.

I remember when it changed to November. I still think about it in October though. I use to like but not so much anymore. Oh well... Joyce you bring up so many interesting facts.

Dreary and dark here today. Looks like night time. Dark clouds. It snowed last night and I imagine it will snow today too.

I wish I had some blooming plants. When I had a flower shop, I had a lot of Jasmine and other winter bloomers. It was so nice. Especially the Jasmine because it was so fragrant. Pitmom, you are fortunate, and smart to plant such nice flowers. My orchid will be blooming soon,

I hope that everybody has a good Saturday!

Jamie, I would like to go to New Zealand. Especially if there is no snakes, what about spiders?

Hugs, Karen...

Hello all.

My garden is 'by design'. I am searching out the plants that bloom the earliest in our NJ season...found snow drop bulbs this year and added them...and the latest in our season...so far that would be the hibiscus, pineapple sage and butterfly weed. I had a bulb that was called 'resurrection lily' that would bloom around Thanksgiving but, they are not 'long lived bulbs' and I haven't found any to replace them yet. I wish I had room for a witch hazel tree...they are known to bloom in February!

I have new growth on some of the amaryllis and hope they will bloom for me in a few weeks!

Sounds lovely Pitmom. I use to have so many plants and flowers. I liked the mandivilla (I can't seem to spell it right) because it would sometimes bloom in the winter. I would keep them in a pot outside in the summer and bring them inside through the winter. I also had a passion vine that I kept in the smaller greenhouse that I heated one winter. Got real expensive but the sight was awesome! They were the fragrant kind. It seems they were white and purple and they had little frilly things in the middle, they climbed all over the place. I sure do miss that but could never do all the work it took.

Now I only have a couple good windows for plants. I have a couple of ivys, a rosemary and a tropical of some sort. Then two miniature orchids. Oh my cousin gave me a couple of succulents but I don't know what they are called.

I hope you have a lovely day today.

I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand, traveling the whole length and breathe of both islands. (The 3rd, much smaller island, isn't very accessible. Or it wasn't in 1983 when I was there.)

As Jamie says, it's a beautiful place! Spent most of our time outside, avoiding the cities (not that there are a lot of them). Of course, be prepared for no ice and lots of mutton & lamb to eat!!

Still on the rollercoaster
Mom had another episode with a nightmare that she perceives has real. It seems she dreams these things and upon waking she's in between the sleeping and waking world and continues the nightmare. She asked me why do I have her chained to the bed. Why am I so mean-what did she ever do? Why did I tell everyone that her house just disappeared-so no one can find her? She says I'm evil and hell bound.
I reassure her and say she had a bad dream, that I would never do that- I love her. I'm sorry she is having nightmares. Eventually she comes around to somewhat normalcy. I know I can't let myself feel hurt by this but I do. Then yesterday she said My neighbor wanted to take my bills to send to you (I've been taking care of paying them) but I told him no- that you'll be here tomorrow. You're coming tomorrow right? I said no mom. But my care provider said you were. (I know she didn't) I said no you must have had a dream. Why aren't you coming?(I've made the trip twice recently. I have only a few days PTO and I am broke as a joke. My daughters wedding is in 2 weeks, etc etc etc. My next trip can't be until I get the feel she is days from death. Yes I have guilt guilt guilt) I was just on my way into a restaurant with my husband who feels totally neglected and rightfully so. Every waking hour I am either texting with care provider, taking phone calls from her or hospice providers or speaking with my mother on the phone. I don't know how my day job puts up with it. I see myself not getting my work done in a timely manner and my business I own with my husband has been put on the backburner. I only do the bare minimum and soon its going to all blow up in my face.
I feel totally guilty whenever I do anything for myself because something always happens- some mini crisis that I wasn't available to help out with.
Well on that note- I'm going to try and get a mani-pedi this morning and look for a mother of the bride dress. This should be a happy time for me but I just feel like it is work and a nuisance. I don't let on to my daughter this fact- but in my heart I'm just so low.
