Hi all..
I have been on Venlafaxine 150 for 3years and it has made my LES weak and it's not closing properly.. I have developed Gerd and because of this I'm much anxious and depressed.. Has anyone had such a rare experience??

What makes you sure it's the venlafaxine after 3 years? I'm stating the obvious here, but speak to your doctor if you haven't already. You could always try switching to another antidepressant to see if that makes a difference. Good luck. GI symptoms can be pretty miserable, so I hope you can resolve it.
Dx Crohn's in June 2000. (Yay skull)
Tried: 5-ASAs, azathioprine, 6MP, Remicade, methotrexate, Humira, diets.
1st surgery 20/2/13 - subtotal colectomy with end ileostomy.
2nd surgery 10/7/15 - ileorectal anastomosis. Stoma reversed and ileum connected to the rectum.
Current status: Chronic flare. Do I have any other kind?
Current meds: 50mg 6MP; Entyvio (started 3/11/16)

I'm sure it's Venlafaxine, bcs there s no other reason for my LES to be weak.

Call the docs office ASAP and discuss this, they may want to wean you off and start another med.

Don't wait, and you are not bothering them, they are your care giver.

My GERD and LES insufficiency began a decade before starting Venlafaxine. I blamed it on Naproxen, but it could have been just normal aging. No one ever knows these things. I do know that GI distress is the most common SE from Effexor, but if you are taking the ER/XR form and taking it with food and able to sit upright after taking it, then it should not be a problem. I'd had Barrett's esophagus long before starting any A/D and things like onions cause more problems than does the 150mg/day of Effexor.

Changing to a different drug MAY improve your condition for now, but I suspect you'll be experiencing it a lot more in the future.
