Thanks Karen. I hope you have happy holidays, and you're right, we can only do our best to enjoy ourselves and to try to help other people enjoy themselves. It's so subjective what makes people happy.
I always enjoy those wine baskets... I think food, chocolate, coffee, nuts are all a great gift - or a simple gift card
. Though I have some friends who complain when they get baskets, they will say it was old or low quality. I try to accept it for what it is, someone thought enough about
you to get you something. I only exchange with a few people thankfully. I would rather everyone keep the money in their own pocket and get what they like.
It's interesting because it really is a holiday for young children and people with children. The problem is that parents have expectations. My family doesn't care what I do as long as I buy gifts for the children. I personally think it's nuts. I don't have any children, and I don't know the children. Why do they care so much what I do? I think it's their own issue about
the way they think they are perceived if I don't do what they think is "appropriate" - though in truth, no one cares except that one neurotic lunatic who has this idea in their head. In my opinion, they should worry about
themselves. If I don't care how I am perceived by people, what do they care? it's kind of insulting actually, them being so worried about
what people think, and how it makes them look. Sorry I am such an embarrassment! actually, they should be more embarrassed that I don't care to see them than who I buy gifts for, but it's always the other way around.
