Well, I do a few things that are my "go to's". I have neurological problems aside from the mental, so each time I need center or ground can be different. This is true for many people!
MINDFULNESS is a real big one. At first, I thought this is nonsense, and I used it as a "skill". Mindfulness does not work that way for me. This is more of a change of habit, this is not to say, I do it all the no time.
What works for me in mindfulness is breathing to calm, then purposely bringing gentleness to my movements and actions. It is part of SELF-COMPASSION. Which itself is part of mindfulness. For me to get serious about
pulling myself up out of my mire, becoming independent, no family at all, few friends, I needed to like myself in order to survive.
Self compassion is actually easier than I thought it would be, you don't push your sell, be honest with yourself,
one step at a time.
Journaling is a wonderful tool for me, from the first day of my healing journey. You can say, yell, scream! Anything that is in your head, soul.. Get it, Cry, release.. Do art . black crayon, scribble til the page is torn
then add a little red, Anger is released. You mind and intuition will tell you. You do not have to be an artist
it not about
"art". it is about
colors and emotions being released.
Writing by hand is cathartic. If you are going to try journaling, email me. Click my on name and go to my profile
I can send lots of journal prompts to get you started, OR, you can search for them yourself.
and I have a dog. Have always had a dog my adult life.
