Hi Sunshine1127,

Welcome back! I hope whatever is causing you physical illness gets better soon. You are correct, this too shall pass.

Keep hanging in there and have a Merry Christmas.

Hugs, Karen...

I’m Working on responding to my feelings rather than reacting.
Back to be mindful of my surrounding, truthful to myself and letting it go... it’s ok to feel what I am right now and to acknowledge that there is both sadness and happiness at the same time.

Slow down stop running from the negatives and important to hold on to the happiness and all the good times and memories.

Checking in. Not great but not unsafe. Planned on going to my women's AA meeting last night, glad they've re started, got in the truck to head out and discovered my headlights weren't working! Sigh. This is the first time in 25 years I haven't been at a meeting on my sober anniversary, 12-23-95. Did an online meeting, though, which I'm grateful for. My partner, of course, congratulated me (she's got 33 years in) and her Mom sent up a card...but no calls from my kids. A little hurt by that. Just another day.

On the bright side...I did see the planets almost aligned as I was getting into my truck, so that's on the plus side. It's been too cloudy on the best days to see them. My amaryllis Stargazer is coming along nicely, but probably won't be open until New Years. I've taken the rest of them out of the cold closet so hopefully I'll have more blooms in a few weeks time. I'm still reasonably healthy, although my shoulders are a real mess from shoveling after the Nor'Easter we had last week. Not very deep here, thankfully, but had to do the walk and around the mailbox. Left the truck for nature to take it's course. Next storm, tonight/tomorrow is supposed to be all rain/wind. One leaky spot in the hallway still. Wait...this is supposed to be the 'bright side'! Okay, well, my hellebore has buds on it and the red twig dogwood I had to cut down has sent up one new shoot!

I hope everyone is having a peaceful 24hrs...and a Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!

Merry Christmas everybody,

I feel this holiday is kind of bittersweet this year. We are all trying to be positive though which is good. It is hard for many of us I am sure.

Icy here and windy. Hopefully that will change. The wind, the is wont melt because it is too cold. Tomorrow is only going to be about 15 degrees, but I will be baking so that is good.

Since a lot of us will be home for the holidays I hope to see people post if they have time and share their day.

Take care all.

Happy Holidays and welcome 2021.

Hugs, Karen...

Pitmom,

Congrats on your AA anniversary!! I have 43 years with AlAnon; my area has a Gay Clubhouse so we do holiday parties and picnics through the year that include AA & AlAnon...I know tons of people in the rooms! I haven't been to a live meeting since the Covid-19 stuff began; but the clubhouse has been doing virtual meetings that are helpful.

Are your children old enough to remember before you joined the program? People that aren't in it don't appreciate that it's not "25 years", it's a long slog of "one day at a time". You know what you've done!! Good job!

Congratulations Pitmom,

We are all so very proud of your accomplishments. And GreenBeans is right, one day at a time.

I will write more later. I got interrupted.

Hugs, Karen...

I am back after a few minutes. What you have accomplished is important. And something to be proud of. I am sorry your children didn't acknowledge, but as also mentioned by GreenBeans, people who haven't been through it, can't appreciate it for what it is. I just hope you continue to take it one day at a time and know you have hit a milestone. Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen...

Merry Christmas to all! Last year at this time, I wonder how many people anticipated anything like 2020. But now that people are expecting more of the same craziness, perhaps 2021 will be a return to normalcy, relatively speaking?

Congrats Pitmom on your AA anniversary (25 years is impressive!) I need to cut down a bit myself or it'll keep adding up. The bottle tends to be a new friend for some during these quarantine times of isolation.

I saw Tenet and must join the growing group of people to whom it made no sense... would love an explanation if anyone here has seen and managed to absorb it. (I guess I have issues with time running forward and backward at the same time.)

Merry Christmas everyone.

My daughter was 13 when I stopped drinking, so yes, she should remember. Custody of my son went to his Dad, so yeah, I think he'd remember, too. I'm trying to look at it this way...they see me as 'normal' now, so why should they think about what it took to get me this way! lol There's no need to give them directions to the meeting this year or remind them of what time...so it's all good, right?

The storm was crazy last night!! Wind tore my back door open again...before I'd gone to bed...so that was a plus. Still haven't tracked down the last leak in the hallway, but at least it's only one now. The storm has passed, so at least the dogs have gone out.

I want to thank of all you for your good wishes. We all know what it's like to battle...some symptoms more obvious than others...it means a lot to me. I hope you all have a peaceful 24 hrs.

I guess the date would be more prevalent to you than it would be to them. Basically because it means so much to you. They are probably just glad you are you. So I would try not to fault them. You know what it means and that is really what counts. I know I am proud of you. And whenever something important has happened for me, I tend to remember the dates, even though I am not good at it.

Each day is important when we are struggling to do what we feel is best for us.

Take care Pitmom and Merry Christmas.

Love and hugs,

Karen...

And yes, it is all good.

Chotti, I stand in awe!
Well done! I send you strength to sustain your positive track building.

Pitmom, Karen is correct.

One time inpatient, I was told this in a conversation RE: unsupported families

Get a couple people together you know in AA. Anniversary date for each person, you meet somewhere, celebrating their day.

I cried...πŸ₯ΊπŸŽ…

Merry Christmas and happy winter solstice holiday to everyone! Strangely enough, AA brings to mind American Atheists, who prefer the winter solstice. Some acronyms are funny this way -- e.g., did you know there was the other NRA (National Restaurant Association) having nothing to do with guns? smile

I like that HT ... keep life simple take time to drink in the little things that brings happiness.

Paul same to you the winter solstice this year coincided with Jupiter and Saturn. Just for fun...
The planet alignment in over 800 years, called β€˜The great Conjunction’ , in the most positive way makes a person very ambitious, dedicated, and mature. So when these two planets come together its a good sign for better positive days ahead.

Positive reinforcement from the stars for a better 2021 .

Hello everyone!

I did know about Natl rest Assoc
Worked in Food & Bev for awhile

Stopped sewing masks, not needed around here and the group is tenuous at best.
It was a great run though, 7 full months..
And I have a few to keep in my purse in baggies, in case someone forgets a mask.
Keep them in my purse

I am much more relaxed today. Sleep schedule is getting back to normal...

This coming year is going to be a Creative year for me.
Practicing sketching yesterday and bam!, idea for a canvas hit strong and hard
I'm glad about this.

I wish the same "feeling" for everyone. That sense of adventure, things are possible etc..
Peace

Hello my friends. You may be interested to know that I fixed the headlight problem in my truck today...by myself...and I feel awesome!! First, I tried replacing the fuses, but that didn't fix it. So, back to the computer for some research and I learned there is a chronic problem with my particular truck in that the relay switch goes bad. So, back to the auto parts store for the part...back home to put the part in (I never work on my vehicle in the parking lot) and voila'...I have headlights again! There is just something so rewarding about 'do it yourself' and saving time and money that cannot be beat!

Yay Pitmom!

I should set you to work on the mystery light issue in my car. Auxiliary lights (clock, radio, AC lights) go off when I use the brake. Grounds all good, fuses all good, I find the issue mentioned in various car websites, but never find the solution. I'm resigned to letting it happen and checking brake lights periodically to make sure they are still working. As long as it's not dangerous I'm not going to pay someone to diagnose.

But yeah, it'd be more satisfying to fix it myself. about time to redo the toilet innards, I'll have to settle for that, I guess. lol

Congrats, Pitmom. That's a good skill set to have. I used to enjoy taking apart motors and engines, but usually seemed to have a few "unnecessary" parts left over. sad

Chotti, that's interesting about the 800-year event. Now we need to wait for the next one...

Trina, congrats on knowing about the other NRA. This must be the first time someone did when I mentioned it. smile

Happy New Year to all!

You go, Pitmom!

I have had a couple of "long time since I did this" events in the last few days. On Saturday, we visited with my best friend and her daughters and she treated me to a manicure. The last one I had was 25 years ago and I went with clear nail polish. This time I went with bright red with glitter! (It still startles me when I catch a glimpse of my nails)

Earlier this evening I went to the rec center and swam laps. I can't remember the last time I did this. I was on the swim team for a year in high school so I feel comfortable with it. What is really helpful is that I have to make an appointment to go swimming due to covid. I am always very assiduous about going to appointments and get upset if I miss one, so built in motivation to go exercise.

My mood is much better since I started Abilify last week. I may just take it over the winter or stay on it for a while - I'll wait and see.

Stay warm everyone. Jamie, I don't have to tell you to stay cool, because you are already cool!
