Thanks Karen (getting by) and Trina (BnotAfriad).

It was Joyce (PA grandma) who started a column of jokes and words of wisdom on this Depression forum, and whose last column was on 5/1/2018, and who passed away not long after that.

I helped her with her column for about a week and got used to looking up sayings so that I could do that column. So, recently I'm looking around under authors and comments they’ve printed, and it reminds me of those sayings that I put in the column.

And it reminds me of Joyce.

Or, as I put it then, “Some people are the heart of this thread and one was the soul.”

-----------
(The below is really a song, but I've been told by a musician, that a song is a poem put to music.)
(-- Tim Tam)

I Can See Clearly Now
I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I've been praying for
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies

(repeat 2nd verse)

Hear it on youtube.com. Source: LyricFind; Songwriters: Johnny Nash; 1972.
I Can See Clearly Now lyrics © Nashco Music, Inc
-------------------------

A son is a son, until he takes a wife.
A daughter is a daughter for life.
------------

The golf course lay so close to the mill
That almost every day
The children working there
Could see the men at play.
----------------

(and one poem from previous entriessmile

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
— J. R. R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

(I think that means, even those who are weakened, can still have strength. –Tim Tam)

The song says, "It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day."

But I say Trina is the sunshine.

Trina says, "So many options for pondering thoughts!"

Or, the poems are food for thought.

Thank you, Trina.

J.R.R. Tolkien, a marvel. Not just in stories, in books,
but in poetry, and essay, and Christopher Tolkien as well.

I found some rare stuff related to J.R.R. tolkien at a trash and treasure in the UK,
IT STILL IN THE UK! HT.

Am a big fan.

You said you were a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Net says, "John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL (/ruːl ˈtɒlkiːn/;[a] 3 January 1892 – 2 September 1973) was an English writer, poet, philologist, and academic, best known as the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings." It says "Christopher," who you mention above, was his son who gathered his father's unfinished notes and was able to complete some of them.

You must really like J.R.R. Tolkien if you bought some of his stuff at a trash and treasure in the United Kingdom. Well, as you do say, ""Am a big fan." How did you get to know about his works? What is it about his stories, etc.?

The bio says the above rhyme, "All that is gold does not glitter," is at the top of his poetry.

Sorry, your collection of his writings are still over in the UK. Any chance to get them back?

I reside in Australia. Was
With a partner in the UK at the time.

Yes...the hobbit and the lord of
the rings trilogy started me on
The Tolkien bandwagon.
I read the lord od the rings as one book...an epic....that did it!

Cheers HT.

My favorite author is probably J.D. Salinger. He doesn’t necessarily say anything deep, but he’s very entertaining and funny at the same time. Some of the people who write into here write like he does. All over the place.

Somebody once said they like poetry because it's short. I like J.D. Salinger because you don't have to remember a whole lot. Here's his opening to Catcher in the Rye:

“If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don’t feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything personal about them.”

Here's some more quotes from J.D. Salinger in Catcher in the Rye:

“That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They drive you crazy. They really can.”

“If a girl looks swell when she meets you, who gives a dern if she’s late?”

“She wasn't doing a thing that I could see, except standing there leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together.”

"Ask her if she still keeps all her kings in the back row."

"Sleep tight, ya morons!"

Tokin' by moon light
Gently filtered through
Long, puffy
storm clouds.
Muscles ease, shoulders release

then relax.

Aaaaaahhhhhh

You could not have paid me
to agree. I would smoke for calming
ease nausea and help depression..
Life is full of wonders...

In doubt,
Procrastination-
Thinking aloud;
Many listen,
And not hear-
The deafening silence
Of my tears. HT

Fictions of truth;
but alas a lie,
till death,
and forever reborn-
the cycle of misery,
is your choice,
so be warned. HT

Soz to hear this trendy.

The seas of madness,
flotsam and jetsom,
mariner of time-
sinners on journeys,
captains by rook,
walk the plank;
amongst the seas of madness...
destined to die,
sink or swim,
be of a baron land,
just drown in quicksand-
be darned,
go down with your ship,
into the seas of madness.
