I feel like I'm getting 'attached' to my therapist. When I say attach, I do not mean it in a romantic way. I find my therapist to be very good and they have helped me, to an extent, in dealing with my depression and anxiety.

I have had other therapists who were also good, but I find my current therapist is helping change how I view things. As a result, I get anxious about my therapist leaving and having to start a new relationship with another therapist.

Is this normal?

FP, I certainly consider it normal & you are very fortunate to find a therapist that is helping you. I went to a lady for nearly 2 years & she helped me tremendously. I looked forward to my weekly visits & always felt like a burden had been lifted off of my shoulders each week. A while back I tried to find her only to learn she had moved out of state. I live in a large metroplex & have access to many, I just haven't put forth the effort to search for one which is my fault.

I think it's great that you are benefitting from her help.

Thanks Straydog.

It's so hard to find a good therapist. I also look forward to my therapy session as it gives me new tools to fight anxiety and depression.

I hope that you find a good therapist if, or when, you decided to search for one.

Though it is easy to get attached even to a doctor, the best thing I think you can do is just enjoy each visit. Try not to think of it ending in the future. I worry about mine retiring, but try to stop because it is something out of my control. I guess we both should just think in the lines of crossing that bridge when we get to it. It is hard I know, but no sense in worrying now when we can be getting the help we need just by being mindful.

Best wishes and Happy Holidays to all.

Hugs, Karen...

Forever

I was attached to my therapist for 4 years
The weeks were so long.
Even called during the week for 3years...

I asked him if I was contacting him to much.
He said no, not for where I was mentally at the time
Eventually, stopped on my own.
Down to 2-3 weeks now.

The issues you have been dealing with it is natural to feel this
