My car broke down last week so I had to postpone my trip to Utah with Sid's ashes until this week. In the meantime, there weren't any dogs I was interested in at the Kanab sanctuary, so I found one here at my county shelter. Her name is Della and she is a black mouth cur mix, of all things. She is very sweet and is coming out of her shell fairly quickly. She is currently lying on the couch snoring gently. No health problems and about 3 years old.

I am going back to work on Feb 2nd and I am starting to have some free floating anxiety which I think is triggered by that. I try to do reality checks but it still sneaks up on me. I have discovered "Sleepy Time Extra" tea, which has valerian in it , which is sometimes helpful.

We are supposed to get a snowstorm starting tomorrow and lasting 3 days. Not huge accumulation expected but enough to make travel a little less fun. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon to go to Utah. I have to wait until the shelter manager is in at noon to formally adopt Della. They send dogs home on a trial adoption first.

Stay warm/cool. everyone

I had to look up black mouth cur mix dog. Never heard of that breed. They look very beautiful. The description noted how loyal, smart protective the are. Sounds like you have a great new dog. Congratulations on Della she will be a lot of good quality emotional help, company and friend and play pal. My son trained dogs for PTSD . He also had a great dog to help keep him calm thru diversity issues.
Have a safe trip to Utah.

We were never meant to live on this planet without a dog. They make our lives complete. I have never been without one since a child. Many breeds over the years. My fav breed are border collies. The were first bred on the border old Scotland and England ,,,hence Border Collies. Their linage can be traced back to the father in Scotland called ‘Ole Hemp’ to this day.

I have had many and they love to run. Very smart. I have those battery op push buttons for dogs and babies. See on Amazon... It’s a recording device . I put a common doggie request on the buttons that when the dog pushes down on the buttons the recordings say , ‘cookie Ball’, “Run, Run, Run”, or “I’m Hungary”. Each press button recording is different colors ...red, blue...green... even though dogs don’t see colors but shades of greys she still knows what button to push . I ask her want she wants and she will push a button for a cookie in her cookie ball, or to go out to run, or if she wants dinner. I got them dec 22. Already she has me outsmarted. I have to find another recording for her she is wearing me out on these three recorded buttons.

It really fun thought you might be interested. It keeps us both outta trouble.

Stay healthy , busy, and hugs to everyone.

Interesting Chotti, the dog toy. And how your dog knows what buttons to push.

I have had dogs all of my life too. I don't know how it would be to be without one. Though I did go from May to November in 2018. It was lonely for the most part. But yet I didn't have the responsibility I have now, I felt lost.

My girl is a black German Shepherd. That seems to be my favorite breed. Though I love all dogs. I have always had bigger dogs though.

I hope you have a lovely day and I hope all do too.

Take care Chotti...

Hugs, Karen...

Kathy,

Awesome on the shelter dog. I myself have to look the breed up. It seems that I have heard of it before, but not sure. So I most likely have not.

You have such a kind heart.

Hello Paul,, Chotti. Forever, Jamie,
Anyone I forgot. 💛

Kathy congrats on the dog

If you feel comfortable email me a pic I would love to what she looks like

Time enough to put Sids ashes to rest.

Always dogs in my life
Some literally saved my life at times

Walking into a house with out a dog or 3 or
cat lol
Is like walking into a house without a soul.

Use to have up to 3 pups
Can only care for one now
Doodlehead, is a special dog.
Very sensitive to my chronic pain and warns
When its time for morphine before pain hits

Everyone have a great day

Trina you have a very special furry friend. The warnings must be so comforting. Lovely Doodlehead what kind of dog? Just curious .
Oo morphine ... upsets my tummy and I get crazy Hallucinations. Took it years ago when in a motorcycle accident. Even after my last hip revision other pain meds helped but allergic to morphine. Glad it helps you. Needless to say I switched motorcycles for horses...A bit safer ... horses are my therapists. Riding high on a well trained horse thru the coastal mtns of the NW revives the soul.

Kathy how’s the new pup doing? Isn’t it amazing how well dogs adjust to new environments.
Dogs and cats are a bit easier to train. Sometimes I wonder who has who trained.

Karen has GS. They are very bright and sweethearts. My best friend always has had Shepard’s.

Walking into a house with out a dog or 3 or cat lol, Is like walking into a house without a soul.
Trina gotta quote you again... So True.

Stay strong , happy and healthy. And hugs to everyone🤗.

I had to look up black mouth curs also. Della has short gold fur, a black muzzle, black eyebrows and black on her floppy ears. She is settling in very well. I think she was someone’s dog before she was a stray because she is house trained (yay!), leash trained and likes to ride in the car. She was living under an abandoned home in Houston when she had puppies about a month ago. They all died of parvovirus unfortunately, but one of the neighbors rescued her. She is starting to get much more playful.

I am at my house in Utah for a few days before I drive over to Kanab to bury Sid’s ashes. I am doing that more for his caretakers there than for me. Snowing in Monticello right now

Della sounds beautiful from he eye broke description she must have some interesting facial signals. It sounds like she is a lucky dog to have a loving new home. They take a bit of time for their personalities to show. It’s a good sign she likes to play. She is a lucky dog 🤩.

Congrats on the new friend, Buena... she sounds like a friend indeed, and almost instantly at that. Dogs are great that way. This may inspire me to adopt a dog or cat as well (had cats in the past, but no dogs, though I took care of them for people). Too bad my new landlord doesn't allow pets, but this may inspire me to move soon as well.

Chotti, that's true about the coastal mountains of the PNW. I've never ridden horseback there, just my own back (or legs), but the soul is refreshed either way.

Hello everyone, hope your doing good today with lots of fun things to do and more to look foreword to.

For the first time it snowed this winter. Not enough to stick. I raced outside covered the pond and plants are tropical in the pond and have not frozen. Was hoping to save them . In summer they keep the fish cool and the water from getting green.

Paul you sound like a hiker. Always a good way to get out of a rut and walk thru thru beautiful trails in your area. Nature can take our minds from all the intensity in life at the moment. The cloudy days add up and when a sunny day comes I’m like a solar battery need to run out and recharge my batteries.

Planning where to put the dahlias this year to protect them from the dog gone gophers. Set the traps and wrap the tubers in chicken wire helps. That’s a lot of extra work for 78 tubers. Would love to plant lettuce and veggies too.

The things we worry about . I would be happy if the deer would leave my garden out of their menu.

Took a break from uncluttering the closets drawers my shoulders are complaining. So managed to sit still a couple of days. Not easy for me but been worth the effort until my shoulders feel better. Broke a huge mirror yikes what a splintered mess. Well at least I don’t have to find a place to hang it. Getting it in the trash was not my jam. I called the trash co and asked if I could leave it wrapped in box outside the trash can. It measured 5’x4’ heavy and awkward. They said OKay to that. I need to have my DH army uniforms cleaned. They mean the world to him. He was a pilot during the Vietnam war. I have assembled all his medals in a shadow box with military coins.

It’s late so I’m off to get some hibiscus tea . Stay strong, healthy and happy. No matter what!

Pitmom, I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. I'll be praying for her.

Buena, It's so great that you got Della. She sounds like such a joy to be around. Dogs are truly a man's best friend.

Hi GB, HT, Bnot, Chotti, and everyone. Hope your day is going well so far.

Been watching the news a lot. I'm hoping that we're able to get another stimulus check which some many people desperately need. This year I am planning to build up my savings and try to pay of some of my debt (student loans).

The more I think about my finances, the more depress I become. I'm in my forties and literally have no retirement plan and little in savings, and I'm very scared. I have to turn this around and become aggressive about building my future. I wish I would have been much wiser about money. A financial class should be mandatory for kids. If I knew then, what I knew now, I would have handle things much more differently. Oh well, the only thing I can do now is look forward.

You are right Forever, all we can do is move forward. Keep saving. Every little bit adds up. In no time you will notice.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Chotti, I have had the GSD as long as I can remember. When I was a kid my neighbor's had them and I have loved the breed ever since.

Take care all. It is snowing again. There is a storm but we are hoping it misses us. It could.

Hugs, Karen...

I agree that schools should have courses on how to manage money. Start them early. It’s a tricky lesson for all of us. I hope the stimulus checks come soon too.

Snowing a little , dark and overcast.

Hi all. Love the 'pet talk'. Don't know where I'd be without my fur babies!

MIL is doing pretty well...some issues from the strong antibiotics but I suggested she eat yogurt and it seems to be helping. Can't believe they never told her in the hospital that she'd need to replace good gut bacteria! She was getting depressed about it...and Lisa didn't really want to discuss it...but I gently but firmly made a point that it HAD TO be addressed. She had to cancel with the p.c.p. today because of the sleet we got but rescheduled for Thurs. so that's good. I also offered for her to use my 'Miracle Bamboo' seat cushion with the cutout for the coccyx area. Lisa bought her one of her own and MIL is loving it!

I'm going to pay my daughter to take all of my quilts and comforters to the laundromat for me. She'd do it as a favor, of course, but she's not been getting many hours of work lately and I hate going to do them (pain) and was considering the drop off service...so why not just pay her what I'd pay them? This way she'll feel she earned it and I'd be spending the money anyway...win-win.

Ok, I am going to try and remember story lines here no promises🤔

Chotti, you are so active. Was it you who has the job or Buena...CONGRATULATIONS

Doodle is 45lbs mix breed.: lab, pittie., blood hound. And wait for it
Great dane 🤣

She's black with a white bib.and belly
Her head is just a little to big for body sose you'd notice.
Ears go straight up then flop
Bell swings
Back legs and tail miniature Great Dane

Pitmom, glad to hear that things are going as good as can be expected. Hugs

School?? I never I kids. But close with a lot
For decades now, testing to see which schools get what budget by scores has gotten to the point where the kids are teaching themselves on line.

Ah yea. Well .. before COVID-19.

I found a 1st Edition Mark Twain, signed as
Samuel Clemens!! In the condition you only dream out...
Certification by family member.
$17,000.00
No I did not say no right away. Seriously thought about getting a loan. All my collateral is joint. Wouldn't work...
I was sad

Peace all

Trina, that Mark Twain book seems like a great collector find... though if I pay that much, it's got to have four wheels and an engine, as someone said to me long ago (long enough for $17,000 to buy a good new car). On the bright side, would you really enjoy it? This reminds me of comic book collectors who immediately encase everything they buy in airtight Mylar. By design, they will never see the inside of those comic books. I don't know if I'd want to handle a $17,000 book myself for fear of leaving smudges on it or something...

Chotti, yes, I used to hike the PNW mountains, deserts and coasts... as you said, just the environment can help heal the soul. Wish I could enjoy like I used to, but trying to get there again.

Best wishes to all!

How funny Doodle is quite the combo of breeds. 45 lbs he’s no light weight more like a small poney. I bet Doodle is very bright , attentive and a bit demanding. Sounds like a big collie I had my gentle giant.

It must have been Buena that has a job. I’m retired. But might as well have a job keeping up this place.

Thats a lot of $ for a book. But for collectors looking inside isnt the idea. It’s owning a part of history.
Personally if I had that $ to spend I would get a Icelander well trained horse. It’s all relevant.

Paul I hope you can get back to where your not in pain all the time. Have you checked into a specialist.
Nothing like a easy hiking trail to recharge your batteries.

It snowed today. Lost power for a few hrs. It’s so beautiful all the gardens are like a snow wonderland.first snow of the season. I thought mabe we might miss the snow this year it’s so late.

Karen send you some pics...

Luv and hugs to all. 🤗😁👍🤩

Thanks Chotti, would love to see them.

We have a good bit of snow now. There was a storm yesterday but we just got some snow, not bad winds or anything. We lucked out.

I hope you all have a good day today.

Paul,
Cost of a car for something I would read
And run my fingers over his inscription and ponder....
Nope.... but I can dream.
Here is another 16,500.00
His books sell fast!! Come up on estate sales usually. Popping now, I guess because people need to eat.
https://"works: the writings of mark twain: autograph edition | mark twain | limited" https://www.argosybooks.com/pages/books/295391/mark-twain/works-the-writings-of-mark-twain-autograph-edition

This is the website I go to when I have an extra $40.00 and open space on my book shelf.

I have 3 shelves empty now. Stopped selling on line. Anxiety kicked in with tax, 1099, every week updates. Too much for this discombobulated soul.

I am walking 3/4 mile now. Pretty good all things considered .progress

Chotti. I would love to see some pics also if you are comfortable
My email is in my profile. Thanks.

Pitmom. Nice of you to pay your daughter
Bet it keeps her depression down if she has it.
Working for it, in stead of living off Mom
Ya know?

Well, that's. It
Peace and hugs

I am sorry to hear of your cat’s passing, Pitmom. I can certainly empathize.

I am here in Kanab where the animal sanctuary is. Sid’s “placement” ceremony is tomorrow afternoon- it’s supposed to snow so it will probably be brief.

Yes, it is me who is restarting work next week. I have been rehired at my old company so no training involved and I know everyone. I think it will be good for me to have structure to my day and week again.

Pitmom, I'm also sorry about your cat... I know the feeling, though the cats and dogs I've known were either taken to the vet for one final trip or just quietly hid away to die in peace (as cats apparently do to prevent predators from coming into the owner's space).

Chotti, yes, I'm trying to get back out there into the wilderness, but it's more of an inability to enjoy rather than physical problems (though age does bring those on as well). Nonetheless, working on it...

Trina, such autographed manuscripts would certainly be great to own, though I'd be inclined myself to encase them in airtight Mylar for all eternity. Otherwise even air humidity must degrade the pages a bit each day, not to mention finger grease if I actually handled them directly... At least that's what I'd be thinking if I paid $15K. smile But maybe you can still enjoy them without such worries.

Have a good weekend everyone...
