So like I'm new to everything here, I just feel like ... I don't know . So I was a straight A student before , but now , like I really want to study and get good grades , but i just can't seem to focus. Like my mind just kinda wanders away or i'll just zone out . Like I know I zoned out , but i can't seem to 'zone back in' . I know I'm writing this in the depression column , but like I'm not even sure if i have depression or not. I just don't want to seem like a lazy person to my parents. Help?

I find meditation and mindfulness help but is it possible you have ADD or ADHD? Do you have a counselor you could talk to? Or even a doctor? It could be something simple that mindfulness will help. But if you are ADD or ADHD, it could get in the way of learning. Just a thought. I had a hard time focusing in school too.

Welcome to the depression forum. I hope you get some help.

Hugs, Karen...

Welcome

First thing I would ask are there any major changes in your life
Are your thoughts racing

Be for your grades get out of control
Talk to and adult you trust about how you feel

Maybe see your family.doc

I think you are very smart to reach out for help.

My wife told me that I had a learning disability but I had it all the way through school, starting at least in 4th and 5th grade. You said you made straight A’s, but now your mind wanders.

Are there any changes, such as stress or depression, etc.? Are you in a tougher grade than when you made straight A’s?

I went to the net about mind wandering and it discussed ADHC (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder). Some of the signs were, being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings, fidgeting, excessive physical movement.

It also mentioned being unable to concentrate on tasks. But it doesn’t sound like you have any of those first three, what do you think?

I also went to the search engine and typed in “ADHC counselors for my home town” and it gave a list of those with descriptions. I think you should talk about this with your parents and see if they can get you to one of these counselors.

This is a mystery if nothing else and it would be interesting to try and find out what is going on.

Since you made straight A’s, this may be an inherent situation that comes at a certain age.
You might ask your parents if they have any such traits in their lives, or if their parents had that, as traits can skip a generation and come down on the grandchildren.

I have bipolar, for instance, and it didn’t start to affect me until late high school. My mother’s mother had bipolar, so I got it from her.

Again, it skipped my mother and landed on me. So this may be something that was with one of your grandparents. And again, this may not be a matter of you suddenly not wanting to learn, but of you reaching a certain age where some sort of trait comes out.

If you parents don’t agree to that now, you might want to bring that up again in a year or so, especially if the problem persists.

SOMETIMES IT CAN BE STRESS. SOMETIMES EYE STRAIN, SOMETIMES DEPRESSION.
SOMETIMES EYE ISSUES. OFF TO THE DR I RECOMMEND FOR A CHECK UP, YES. HT

Hi Hxxxxx,
Are you taking your classes online this year because of the pandemic? I understand that this is very difficult for all students. Add in the isolation that all of us have had to deal with and I think it is very normal for you to lose focus. I think we are all working in a brain fog. My suggestion is to divide your work up into smaller bits and to take breaks between them. You will still get everything done. But I know it is scary to all of a sudden not be able to whip through all of your studies like you used to. This too will end - there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Let us know how you are doing. Even if you don't have clinical depression or any other mental illness, we are still here to help you out.
