Been in a slump...sleeping to the middle of the day and still feeling tired. I don't want to do anything at all. I need to go grocery shopping and wash my hair, but I have no energy even for that.

This feeling started when I learned that I have to get a new therapist because old one is leaving. Guess I'm depressed about it and the fact that I'm still dealing with this crap called depression and anxiety. One day at a time...right?

Yes, forever, one day at a time is all you can do. I think it is perfectly normal to get depressed in this situation. But there is always a chance your new therapist will be cool too. A good therapist. You are going to get through this.

Have you found a therapist yet? I know it is a big step. Is your old therapist recommending anybody? Keep faith and try to think positive.

Hugs, Karen...

Hi GB,

I haven't found a new one yet. I'm waiting for the organization to assign me a new one.

I keep telling myself that the new therapist will be just as good. It's hard though when you've gotten use to one person.

How are you doing? And how's Luna?

Hi Forever,

I totally understand it is hard changing. I have had some I have liked and some I haven't. I pray you get one that is the proper fit for you. I can see where it would be unsettling. I have been seeing my therapists for close to 20 years. So yes, it is difficult to change.

I am doing okay. It seems like it has been such a long winter. March is usually tough. It can go either way. Sometimes it is nice and sometimes it is below zero temps. So far it hasn't been real bad, but I am still complaining.

Luna is doing pretty good. She got a special gift in the mail today from a very special person. She got a new thundershirt. They do really help with anxious dogs. I found a bottle of pheromones that I had for my other dog. I think they are still good as she's been calm most of the afternoon and evening. And thank you for asking about us.

I hope you have a good weekend. Try to relax. Things are going to be alright...

Hugs, Karen...

GB,

Have you ever thought about getting a 'Happy Hoodie' for Luna. It's useful for anxiety and calming dogs down in stressful situations from what I've heard.

Totally, understand about the weather. Sometimes, it's 70 degrees in NY then the next day it is snowing. Can't wait for summer. Think I'm going to start traveling again.

I made an appointment to speak with my therapist next week. I'm going to tell her about my anxiety, etc with getting a new therapist. Hopefully, she'll have some good suggestions.

Have a good weekend everyone

FP, I'm sorry you have to get a new therapist. I can see where that would trigger depression. I have been seeing my therapist for years and I don't know what I would do If she left or retired.

Jamie, how are you feeling?

I got this thing called a scout put in my breast where the tumor is so the surgeon can find it. I joke that it is really a communicator and I can call the Starship Enterprise with it. Nobody was amused except my family. (We're all nerds.) I tend to cry when people are sympathetic so I teared up when the ultrasound tech told me everything was going to be OK, etc. Then every one else got concerned, which made me cry a little more. But I am not crying at home, or a least a lot less than before.

FP, Luna has a thundershirt and got a new one yesterday. It helps. I will look into the happy hoodie though. I have pheromone spray too. Supposed to make them feel like nursing mom is around I guess.

Kathy, I totally understand about the emotions. I tend to cry when people care too.

Jamie, I bet you can't wait to get the cath out. Happy birthday to your bro.

I hope you all have a good day.

Surgery on the 15th, birthday on the 16th. I am up now waiting for the ibuprofen to kick in. The port is what bothers me the most. But everything went well. I get a month to heal before I start chemo.

Worked Thursday and Friday, spent most of today in bed or on the couch. Crying a lot this afternoon. I guess that’s normal. I don’t have any pain. A very easy surgery compared to others I’ve had. A lot of negative self talk, though.

Buena,
It's perfectly normal to feel like you do and have negative self doubts. You are going through a major upheaval at the moment, but remember this too shall pass.

Have you reached out to your support group? It might help you to hear others' and their experiences; they might even suggest some good coping strategies. Also, there is a breast cancer forum on here that might also help.

I hope you feel better soon. šŸ«‚ HUGS.

It’s been a quiet week or so with no doctor appointments. Next week, however, I have my support group meeting, chemo teaching and an appointment with another oncologist at the MD Anderson Center in Loveland for a second opinion. My brother wants me to do this and he enlisted my son’s help in ā€œ persuadingā€ me, enough so that I began having doubts myself. I feel confident with my oncologist but another opinion will make me feel better too.

Hi Buena

Glad things are morning along.

A 2nd opinion is very important with cancer. Tops the list. I think surgery is 2nd or 3rd.

At the least it will strengthen your confidence!☺

You have a very loving family. That's great!!

Haven’t checked in for a while. I went to my support group on Wednesday. There were 3 of us and the moderator in person and everyone else was on zoom. There wa no one that was just starting their treatment but just as I was beginning to feel like this was not the group for me I started to cry. I guess I got overwhelmed. Everyone was very kind and supportive.

Thursday was chemo teaching which was very depressing. I was given a binder of information that I call the Big Book of Side Effects.

Yesterday was my second opinion. Very nice doctor from MD Anderson about 2 hours drive from me. She caught one thing that my doctor forgot and gave me several ideas of new treatments for after chemo and radiation. The chemo regimen is the same and pretty standard. So, a productive visit.

Chemo starts on Thursday…

Saw the first robin yesterday and there are little fuzzies on one of my aspen trees (which are their ā€œ blossomsā€). One foot of snow called for this week ā€œin the mountains ā€œ which is kind of vague. But I’ve learned to expect anything this time of year

Buena,

I am sorry you aren't getting any responses. The forum seems to be coming to a halt. I hope all goes well with your chemotherapy and radiation. I saw my oncologist for my six month visit last week. It went well. Mammogram soon.

Take care...

Hi Buena -- hope your treatment goes well and all the associated tribulations fade away. I also hope your support group helps, which can make all the difference sometimes...

Best wishes to all, especially anyone still stuck with taxes, like me. When I was poor and in school, I got refunds. The only differences now are than I'm no longer in school and I owe.

Hi everyone,

It's been a while and I hope everyone is doing ok.

Buena, I hope everything is going well your treatment.

Currently unemployed and am getting stressed about paying next month's bills. My online ship isn't bringing any income at moment and I can't get unemployment. Grrr... sometimes I wish I was a millionaire!

Stay well everyone!

Yes, or at least "financially independent." May all of us get there one day (unless you're lucky enough to be there already...)

Given the housing bubble, I'll probably have to get to a cheaper area. The houses here aren't exactly the Hamptons or Beverly Hills, yet are starting to go for 7 figures that start with a 2 instead of a 1.

Paul_t,

I think housing prices are going up everywhere. I don't know why though. Seems like everything is going up, including food.

I don't know how people are going to manage, especially city dwellers like me. At least in a rural area, you can grow your own food, etc. Maybe, it's time for me to leave the city.
