I just found out my friend is having a baby. I'm so happy and excited for my friend as she has been trying to start a family for a while, yet I'm feeling a lot of emotions.

I'm not jealous of her as I'm not sure I want the things she has, but I'm envious because it seems like her life is moving forward whereas I'm still stagnant, if that makes sense.

It just feels so strange that I'm happy for her, but sad for myself.

Hi Forever.

I think this a normal reaction. Especially for women who want to have children.

I went through it.

We are capable of having multiple emotions at the same.

Doesn't mean any of them are wrong.

I suggest sitting quietly or meditating, to work through how this effects you.

Maybe even journal.
You will be stronger for this.

My mind is so muddle with different emotions right now. I'm going to try and mediate.

I think it's typical for men as well, or at least those who want to start families. There's a sense of personal loss and being left behind when you see your friends and acquaintances achieve the usual and expected milestones in life. When they move on, they tend to disappear from your life, since they have other concerns and social circles.

The "good" news (?) is that this tends to diminish as one gets older (or at least I don't care as much anymore). The one or two long-time friends I still have were similarly left behind, which is probably why they stuck with me.

I felt that way when my older brother got married. I was the youngest child and both of my older siblings were married or were about to be.

You can get away with it for a while but at some point realty strikes.

Yeah, I had that feeling and I didn't know how to deal with that other than just try to ride it.

FP, We all progress at different rates and times. Just strive to have a good day each day. You will move forward when you are ready. Enjoy the process or it isn't worth much at all. Live and learn...

Best wishes.

Hugs, Karen...

Thanks Karen and everyone. I'm just going to focus on the good and take it one day at a time.
