Lyin' Eyes
Song by Eagles

City girls just seem to find out early
How to open doors with just a smile
A rich old man, and she won't have to worry
She'll dress up all in lace go in style

Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess every form of refuge has its price
And it breaks her heart to think her love is only
Given to a man with hands as cold as ice

So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin'
She is headed for the cheatin' side of town

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes

On the other side of town a boy is waiting
With fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal
She drives on through the night, anticipating
'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel

She rushes to his arms, they fall together
She whispers, "It's only for a while"
She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever
She goes away and leaves him with a smile

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes

She gets up and pours herself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night, it's gonna be a long one
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry

She wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She's so far gone, she feels just like a fool

My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things?
You're still the same old girl you used to be

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes

There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

Lyin' Eyes lyrics © 1975. Cass County Music, Red Cloud Music

The title and idea for the song came when Glenn Frey and Don Henley were in their favorite Los Angeles restaurant/bar Dan Tana's which was frequented by many beautiful women, and they started talking about beautiful women who were cheating on their husbands.

They saw a beautiful young woman with a fat and much older wealthy man, and Frey said: "She can't even hide those lyin' eyes." According to Henley, Frey was the main writer of the song, although he had some input with the verses and the music.

The song was written when Frey and Henley were sharing a house in Trousdale, Beverly Hills. Frey said of the writing of the song: "...the story had always been there. I don’t want to say it wrote itself, but once we started working on it, there were no sticking points. Lyrics just kept coming out, and that’s not always the way songs get written." During the Eagles 2013 concert tour, Frey stated it was written in just two evenings.

"Lyin' Eyes" is the only song on the One of These Nights album that Frey sang solo lead on (he shared lead vocals with Henley on "After the Thrill Is Gone") The song was released as the second single from One of These Nights, and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, behind “Island Girl” by Elton John. "Lyin' Eyes" also crossed over to the Country chart where it reached No. 8, their first on that chart and a feat few rock bands could have achieved at that time. (Wikipedia.com)

Angel of the Morning
Sung by Juice Newton

There'll be no strings to bind your hands
Not if my love can't bind your heart
There's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start
I see no need to take me home
I'm old enough to face the dawn

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Then slowly turn away from me

Maybe the sun's light will be dim
And it won't matter anyhow
If morning's echo says we've sinned
Well, it was what I wanted now
And if we're victims of the night
I won't be blinded by the light

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Then slowly turn away

I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears
Of the day
Of the years
Baby

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, darling
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, darling

Judy Kay "Juice" Newton (born February 18, 1952) is an American pop and country singer, songwriter, and musician. Newton won the Grammy Award in the Pop and Country Best Female Vocalist category 1983 – as well as an ACM Award for Top New Female Artist and two Billboard Female Album Artist of the Year awards (won consecutively). Newton's other awards include a People's Choice Award for "Best Female Vocalist" and the Australian Music Media's "Number One International Country Artist." (Wikipedia)

• Chip Taylor came up with this song in about 20 minutes says Kent Kotal at Forgotten Hits who notes: "After strumming any variety of chords for close to two hours and coming up with nothing, he says the complete lyrics 'There'll be no strings to bind your hands, not if my love can't bind your heart' flowed out of his mouth.

• “His first thought was 'What is that? That's beautiful!' He then thought, 'Nobody actually TALKS like that!!! Where did those words come from?' Incredibly, in one sitting, spread out over no more than twenty minutes, he completed the entire song.

• “He says that during the entire process, he never once thought, 'I'm gonna say this' or 'I'm gonna say that.' In fact, most of the time he was thinking 'I don't even know what this means!' In his own mind, he feels that he didn't so much as WRITE this song as that he DREAMED it... the way the lyrics flowed out, meshing perfectly with the series of chords he had been strumming - there just had to be some kind of divine intervention. 'I write melody and words at the same time and I hum nonsense things until something comes out. So I don't think about what I want to say... I just let the emotion carry me. In this song, the emotion just totally took over and carried me. It was magic.'" (Songfacts)

When Will I Be Loved

Song by The Everly Brothers

I've been made blue
I've been lied to
When will I be loved?

I've been turned down
I've been pushed round'
When will I be loved?

When I meet a new girl
That I want for mine
She always breaks my heart in two
It happens every time

I've been cheated
Been mistreated
When will I be loved?

When I meet a new girl
That I want for mine
She always breaks my heart in two
It happens every time

I've been cheated
Been mistreated
When will I be loved?
When will I be loved?

It's a Heartache
Bonnie Tyler

It's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late
Hits you when you're down

It's a fool's game
Nothing but a fools game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown

It's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Love him 'till your arms break
Then he lets you down

It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone
As much as I depended on you

It's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late
Hits you when you're down

It's a fool's game
Nothing but a fools game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown

It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you
It ain't wise to need someone
As much as I depended on you

Oh, it's a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it's too late
Hits you when you're down

It's a fools game
Nothing but a fools game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown

Fools game, cold rain
Then he lets you down

"'It's a Heartache'" is a song recorded by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. Written by Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe and co-produced with David Mackay, the single was released in November 1977 through RCA Records. The song topped the charts in Australia, Canada and numerous European countries and was Tyler’s first hit in the U.S. where it reached number 3, and was number 4 in the UK.

"It's a Heartache" became the second single from Natural Force (album) in November 1977. Tyler's raspy vocal quality had her compared to Rod Stewart, with critics viewing the song as superior to "Lost in France" (her first chart hit). "It's a Heartache" was a commercial success, selling over 6 million copies worldwide, establishing itself among the best-selling singles of all time.

The writers of the song, Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, were Tyler's managers. The team wrote and produced many of her songs in the '70s, including five of the cuts on the "It's a Heartache" album. (Songfacts)

Yes. I'm Ready

I don't even know how to love you
Just the way you want me to
But I'm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
Yes, I'm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
To fall in love, to fall in love, to fall in love with you

I don't even know how to hold your hand
Just to make you understand
But I'm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
Yes, I'm ready (ready) to learn (to learn)
To hold your hand, make you understand
To hold your hand right now

I don't even know how to kiss your lips (kiss your lips)
At a moment like this
But I'm going to learn how to do
All the things you want me to
(Are you ready?) Yes, I'm ready
(Are you ready?) Yes, I'm ready
To fall in love, to fall in love, to fall in love right now

Yes, I'm ready
(Are you ready?) Yes, I'm ready
(To kiss me?) Yes, I'm ready
(To love me?)
To kiss you, love you, and hug you
Baby, I'm ready

Genius Annotation:
Barbara Mason wrote “Yes, I’m Ready” when she was 18 years old. It became her first hit and remains her biggest, reaching #5 in the US in the summer of 1965.

In 2008, Mason told Mojo Magazine the genesis of the song:

“I was a huge Curtis Mayfield fan, and I heard a record he had produced; Major Lance’s ‘The Monkey Time’ and he sings, ‘Are you ready?’ and I just thought, there’s my record. It only took me10 minutes to write, and then we recorded it live in one take.” Genius.com

Joanne

Her name was Joanne, and she lived in a meadow by a pond.
And she touch'd me for a moment,
with a look that spoke to me of her sweet love.

Then the woman that she was drove her on with desperation,
and I saw as she went a most hopeless situation.
For Joanne, and the man, and the time that made them both wrong.

She was only a girl, I know that well, and still I could not see;
That the hold she had was much stronger than the love she had for me.
But staying with her, and my little bit of wisdom,
broke down her desires like a light thru a prism;
into yellows and blues and a tune that I could not have sung.
Tho' the essence is gone,
I have no tear to cry for her
and my only tho't of her is kind.

For Joanne, and the man, and the time, that made them both wrong.
