i was just wondering what everyone's general take is on finding/joining a support group. i live in the nyc area and would really like to find one...also, what's the deal with paying for that sort of thing? i saw a website saying there's a "suggested" donation of $5 to attend that one in particular, but are there any that are genuinely free? whenever the idea of a suggested donation comes up i always feel like such an ass if i dont pay the full thing, but to be honest, im a college student and i can't even afford my rent...$5 isn't a lot, but it does add up after a few trips, yanno?
argh....ramble. sorry about that...i like to overexplain myself if you hadn't noticed. :-P

Hi Kim,  I havent ever attended a support group although I have thought about it for my Multiple Sclerosis.  You may want to check at local hospitals as they often hold support groups especially if you know of one that has an outpatient program for mental health.  These are often free but they do ask for donations, as do most any type of support group are non profit.  You can donate a dollar if that is all you can afford and figuring that mostly you would only go once a week maybe.  You can do a Google search for your area but try to be specific.  Also, if you cant donate they wont look down at you.  I also understand that they dont pass a collection plate around like church does but have a box located somewhere in the room so you can drop your donation in.  Hopefully some others will post and you can get some more information on this.  Take care
