Today, I was at a person's front door and they had a do-it-yourself fountain/pond with lovely landscaping around it. I happened to notice that there was a lizard floating around on it's back. It was about
7-8 inches long and had a red head with a beige body. I felt sad to know the poor little guy had apparently slipped and drowned. As I watched him being pushed along by the ripples that the fountain made, I saw his leg move!!! I immediately ran over and picked him up out of the water and sat him on the ground. I was a little leery as I didn't know if he would bite, but I couldn't just let him drown either! He was still sitting in the same spot when I left, but his eyes were
open and he was breathing. I think he was just needing time to recuperate from his ordeal! He was probably having PTSD!!!
I felt really good as I walked away...I'm the sort that can't even vacuum up a bug or squash a spider! It really bothers me to kill anything and I do what I can to save animals if I see them in a bad way. I have no qualms about calling the humane society or animal control if I think an animal is being mistreated. I don't understand how some people can be so hateful and cruel. I know that they'll reap what they sow one day...!!
I was okay until that flock of bird dogs flew over...
