I was wondering if anyone has any experinace with Restoril?  My pdoc put me on it last week for sleep...I was on Lunesta but it wasnt working too well keeping me asleep so he switched it.  I just started the Restoril 15mg last night and had a hard time falling asleep and once I did slept well for about 4 hours then was up again as is my usual routine for the last five months.  I have some pretty bad problems with low blood pressure and take 2 medications to keep my pressure up in addition to Ritilin 20mg a day which also helps keep my BP up and 225mg of Effexor which keeps me hopping .  I am thinking that with all the stimulants going though my body during the day it is throwing my sleep patterns off at night...but with my BP it is a necessary evil.  So...I guess I am wondering has anyone had success with Restoril working for them?  Thank so much

Hey Sis restoril is Temazapam from the 'pam " family of sleep aids ......I tried it and had results like you .....I know when we were doing bedtime meds for the residents if they were on this med it was to be given a half hour prior to bed and the doc asked that they be in bed actually (but they were seniors) .....I never had any luck with it he (your doc ) may give you ativan or diazapam if he gave you this they might work better I know I only take when needed and they work well ........

Hey Els,

When I first started my antidepressant I had trouble sleeping and my doctor gave me 5 tablets of temazepam to get me inti a routine of going off to sleep.

The temazepam got me off to sleep nno problem but It didnt last all night.

Hopefully you will find somehing that works hun.

Take care xxxx

Thank you Lyn and Victoria, I took it last night at about 8:45pm and it didnt kick in until about 10pm.  I did stay up and do some other things about the house but I am so tired in the evenings I feel like I could lay down at 4pm and sleep the night through but my brain wont shut off, if that makes any sense... And here I am once again up at 4am, maybe this is going to be my normal routine now but I am sooo tired all the time so I know it isnt good for me.  I do have a PRN for Xanax which I take for anxiety/panic...I guess I could try taking one with it at night to see if it would help..I am sure it will put me to sleep quicker...but I am leary of taking all these benzo's on a regular basis...I dont know what to do.

Hey els,

Are you goung to go back to your doctor to see if he can prescribe something different for you?  It must be difficult for you lacking so much sleep.  I don't know how you do it.

I understand your feelings on taking the benzo's regularly but ask your doc what he thinks to that.  You need your sleep hun.

I can't function well without sleep!!

Take care and talk to you soon xx

Thanks Vic...my next appt isnt until Sept 12th but he is very easy to get ahold of if I need to.  I am thinking I will give it a few more days to see how it does before I call on him to change it.  I dont mind so much getting up early since I have the house to myself for a few hours and everything is quiet.  I can get some of my stuff done and feel ok in the am but when afternoon hits I am dragging and if I take a nap then there is no sleeping that night..so it really is a vicious cycle.

Have you tried Sonata? It is a presciption sleep aid and the only one that has ever worked for me by making me fall asleep and stay asleep. I tried all the others, but I would keep waking up at 3am.

No I have never taken that before...I have had Lunesta, Ambien and now Restoril.  Last night I took 1mg of Xanax with it and fell asleep pretty quickly and slept an hour later...so that was an improvement.  But I dont want to get into the habit of taking all these benzo's to get to sleep. I just looked up Sonata in Mosbys drug guide and it says it is a controlled substance as is Restoril but it doesnt state what class of drugs it is in...I may ask the doc on this one and do more searching.  Thanks Rianna
