Flax Seed and Flax seed oil

Reading the paper this morning, The Sunday Seattle Times, Northwest Life section has an article extoling the virtues of Flaxseed not only for it's BP and digestive properties but also it's mental health benefits. My wife has us taking it for blood pressure and the omega 3's it contains. I have started to try taking the oils through out the day to see if it can control my mood swings. Has anyone else tried this? It probably would go well with Strawberries or Pears in smoothy. The article talks about it's use dating back to Hippocrates time.

I used to take fish oil to augment my workout regime, but stopped taking it when I became too tired to keep working out. I never noticed any mood benefits from it (but I never have from anything), but there's no reason not to take it. It's cheap, it's easy to take, and omega-3 fatty acid is essential to proper brain function, and as you said, has other health benefits as well. Most people probably don't have as high an intake as they should.

I cant speak on the benefits of Flaxseed to aid with depression or BP.  As I have not noticed any effects from taking it for this.  However, it does work wonders for constipation as embarrsing as this is to post.  A lot of the antidepressants make people constipated.  I take Flaxseed Oil Caps 1,000 mg twice a day and it helps in this area quite a bit.

I've always wanted a shinier coat! In spent a little time in health food store researching other natural aids to ease depression. To take all of the items listed I would have to quit eating. On a serious note I tried to donate blood today and for the first time ever my Iron levels were not adequate. My wife is concerned that my diet is not balanced enough so we'll be seeing a nutrionist soon. How many of you find diet affects the onset or severity of your "blues" ?

I take flax seed oil daily for the overall health benefits, but it is also specifically supposed to help those of us with digestive disorders (Crohn's Disease for me). I'll use it instead of butter or margarine, or you can add it to a salad dressing.
