Hi there
I was on Effexor years ago and had weight gain and HPRRIBLY withdrawl coming off this. With the Lexepro I have had
- less of an appetitie and weight loss - I am NOT complaining
- normal sleep habits
- feel better in 2 weeks not 6 or 7 weeks
- stomach issues
Do any of you have the above? Have any of you gotten off Lexepro with no side effects like Effexor

hiya there . was only on lexapro for 5 weeks . stopped it very adruptly because it was making me feel more depressed and very suicidal . been off it for nearly 18 weeks now . got neurological symptoms now since stopping it very adruptly . my life has been and still is hell . got a appointment with the neurologist on the 12th of january 2007 . think my nervous system is damaged because of lexapro . stop taking it now or you will regret it later on . if you do decide to carry on with it , good luck . you will definitely need it my friend ! nono
Sue, it would seem that the only time you post on this board is to warn others against taking Lexapro.  I recall that I did once post to you before regarding this same thing...that you may of felt worse taking Lexapro for that short of a time but it is very odd to get long lasting neurological problems from stopping an antidepressant.  In fact I have never heard of this and I have worked in the mental health system for many years and closely with psychiatrists and these medications.  I am sorry that you are having these problems but please do try not to dissway others from their medical course just because one medication did not work for you.  Thank you ~ Elisha

first off I dont think you can base the effectivenes of lexapro on your situation....as I go to a top DR in manhattan who has treated 1000s of people with lexepro and no bad side effects...I have never felt suicidal and certainly dont on lexepro..sorry you had problems.
anyone else out there with GOOD results?

Hi shen, welcome to healing well forum, we are happy to have you join us here.  I dont take Lexapro I take Effexor Xr...and do dread the day I may have to come off of this medication but in the meantime it is working for me.  Anyhow, I have read some very good things regarding Lexapro and the side effects seem to be a lot less then regular SSRI's which is also good.  I am sure you will soon get some positive feedback regarding your post.
Take care

Hi Shen,
Nice to meet you.
I also take effexor but I did take lexapro before this and had no side effects or any withdrawal when I stopped it.  It just didnt work that great for me but everyone responds differently to meds.
The effexor has really helped me and I too dread the day when I come off it.

When I came off Effexor the only real side effect was once in a while for a few weeks I would have this very weird out of body fuzzy head feeling - but it would pass. I also weaned off them correctly. It wasnt so bad at all.

I woild love to hear some feedback at to good effects of Lexapro

Hey Shen,

I'm on Lexapro, 10mg (for about 7 weeks now) and at first I had really hectic side effects (when I told my neuro ALL about it, he did say I'm one of the rare ones who's very sensitive to Lex though) BUT although many complain that Lex or whichever med was so aweful for them that they came off it just didnt give it a chance because of course thats going to happen at first!! So I just accepted it.

Otherwise heres the good: I am so grateful that I was prescribed Lex, it has helped me so much. It has:
1. Calmed me down, I'm not nearly as irritable.
2. I stopped dwelling on irrelvent things that would get me down, or stress me out.
3. My *obsessive* thinking got alot better.
4. I feel 'normal'.
5. I don't think up negative things.
6. I'm all round just chilled and way more positive.
