Arthrogryposis, or arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a condition characterized by multiple joint contractures found throughout the body at birth. The term currently is used in connection with a very heterogeneous group of disorders having the common feature of multiple congenital joint contractures.
The major cause of arthrogryposis is fetal akinesia (ie, decreased fetal movements) due to fetal abnormalities (eg, neurogenic, muscle, or connective tissue abnormalities; mechanical limitations to movement) or maternal disorders (eg, infection, drugs, trauma, other maternal illnesses). Generalized fetal akinesia also can lead to polyhydramnios, pulmonary hypoplasia, micrognathia, ocular hypertelorism, and short umbilical cord.
Frequency is about 1 in 3,000 live births. Life span is usually normal, but it may be related to the disease severity and associated malformations.
I was born with AMC, 27yrs old now, and since I have gotten older my condition seems to be getting worse. There are so many other problems that occur due to this condition. I want people to be aware of this condition. I don't want them to suffer like I have. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.
I was diagnosed with Facial Neuralgia a couple days ago. Facial Neuralgia is sharp, severe paroxysmal pain extending along a nerve or group of nerves. It is just on the left side. It is a continuous pain with sharp bursts of pain. It really bothers me. I try to control it by keeping it off my mind, but after awhile I just can't take it no more. I am on medications around the clock to control the pain. Anyone else have these problems?
