I've been diagnosed with depression and some anxiety, though I still wonder if I'm more bi-polar than uni. I don't have any real "highs" but when I'm "normal" I tend to ignore life issues. Anyway, Doc put me on Lexapro at 20MG. I've only been taking 10MG due to it waiking me up in the night and now at almost four weeks on it my mood is lifting. The sleep issue appears to be getting better so I'd hate to take the suggested 20MG and find out my sleep is going to get worse again. I take it in the morning. Anyway, he also threw me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) at 300MG to take "AS NEEDED" up to three times a day at two pills per taking if I want. Since he said this stuff is as needed, I've only taken it before bed or when I wanted to chill out a bit. First time I took the stuff I could hardly keep my balance. Now it just has a nice calming effect to it, so I guess the first time it really adjusted a lot of GABA in my head. tongue Anyway, the way I understand it Lexapro will calm your anxiety as well once it's had a few weeks to work at it, as well as the depression, so I'm guessing the neurotin will be needed less as time goes on. My anxiety level never has been super high (most of the time). It's mainly just slight hand jitters, wanting to bounce my leg while sitting, etc, but I have had moments of "wanting to crawl out of my skin" in the past...though rare.
Just wondering if anybody else has been on these two drugs and what experience they've had? It's about four weeks and the Lexapro does appear to be lifting my mood a bit. Also, will these two drugs show up on a drug test? I would suspect the neurontin would? If so, how long does it take to wash it out of your system, and will it also show up in a hair sample? I only ask because I'm thinking of taking on a new job that may require one.

Hi Thomas,  I havent been on Lexapro so I cant give you any insight into the two of these meds mixed together.  However, I have been on Neurontin at 300mg 3 times a day for my MS/nerve pain.  I do have major depression and have taken Neurontin with antidepressants without problems.

I have some concern regarding Neurontin being effective if it is taken PRN (as needed) since this is a medication that needs to reach a thearputic level in your body.  Here is a link that explains how it works with those with depression...

As to your question if either of these medications will show up on a drug they will not if it is your basic drug panel.  Neither one is a controlled substance so if you have random drug testing at work or something you should be fine.

Hi Thomas,
I too take both of those meds, along with several others.  I take Lexapro - 10mgs for depression and Neurontin 1500 mgs day for pain from the Fibromyalgia.  I take most of the Neurontin at night because it makes me very tired.  But it helps with the pain.
I agree with els about taking the Neurontin on a PRN basis - I would consult with your doctor again about this.
I have Bipolar Disorder, Panic/Anxiety Disorders, Agoraphobia, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Severe Acid Reflux, Barrett's Esophagus, Sleep Apnea, and Narcolepsy

That's what the physcologist told me, and I asked him several times to be sure- To take the Neurontin as needed up to 3 times a day at 2 pills per dosage (300mg per pill). I asked again if I only needed to take the stuff when I felt an anxiety or sleep issue and he said yes to that.
