well its been just over a week since I got that cortisone shot and I am THRILLED to report that I think I finally hit that magic number with my medications because my blood sugars seem to be PERFECT. I have taken it upon myself to up my levemir to 60 units twice a day and taking MORE humalog AFTER meals rather than prior to meals and now my sugar levels seem to be normal. (have no fear, I have prior permission from my PCP to change the dosages as I feel necessary.) This is GREAT news for me because I have had such huge problems getting my sugar levels under control for such a long time. when I got that cortisone shot and my levels skyrocketed higher than they ever did before, it scared me. Today however after eating a few handfuls of crunchy cheetos, I was pleasantly surprised to see my sugar level at 101 two hours later! Normally those cheetos would have put my level over the limit with just ONE handful. Call me one happy girl! I am hoping things stay this way. I am really tired of this physical and emotional roller coaster this disease has me on.
on a more personal note, today WOULD HAVE BEEN my moms 67th birthday, but the diabetes took her from me nearly 10 years ago. Happy Birthday in Heaven mom.. I love and miss you more than words can ever say.
when life give you lemons, get some sugar and make lemonade! YUM
