Just wanted to ask if anybody can help me with this...I've been really working on my diet and have been cutting out carbs in every way I can.  I'm seeing smaller numbers and it makes me so glad.  Now what I need to know is what kind of yogurt can I safely eat?  I've seen someone mention low carb yogurt...I haven't seen low carb yogurt when I've gone shopping.  I love yogurt but I'm afraid of the high carbs.  I haven't been diagnosed pre diabetic nor am I on any meds...I was told in the ER that my sugar was high and I should monitor it which is what I've been doing for almost a month now.  I used to eat a container of Yoplait yogurt every day but haven't had any since I've been monitoring my sugar.  I hope someone will be able to tell me what kind of yogurt I can eat.  Thanks.  Joni

(I gave your post a title.)

Hi Joni, it's amazing how many different kinds of yogurt there are now.  There really are a couple that are 'low carb' but you have to take time and read all the labels to find them.  It's plainly on the container but with all the varieties....  it'll take some minutes to find them.  I believe Kroger has its own brand of low carb, too.  If you can't find one, then buy containers of 'no sugar added' yogurt and just eat half the container at a time. I've done that and it worked out fine.  I've also bought the plain Greek-style yogurt and add artificial sweetener.  Supermarkets are carrying these now in the organic sections.  I know of two brands: Oiykos and Fage. Good luck.

As Lanie mentioned, Kroger has their own brand of low carb yogurt labeled "CARBmaster." They're about 80 calories with 4g carbs and 12g protein, and I think they taste pretty darn good! The only other low carb yogurt I've been able to find is Dannon's Light and Fit Carb and Sugar Control. I have a hard time spotting these easily because Dannon has so many different "Lite and Fit" products; only the ones specifically labeled "Carb and Sugar Control" are truly low-carb. The portions are smaller, and I don't think they taste as good as the Kroger ones (they also don't have as many flavors as the Kroger brand). Good luck and let me know if you find any other brands that make low carb options (~3 or 4g carbs per serving)!

You can also try Dannon's "Carb Control" yogurt. Also, for those of you who occasionally like a "bread" you can try Mission Tortilla's "Carb Control." I've used it with good results.

I've found that using Lite yogurt of most brands, the ones with the artificial sweetener in it, the carbs are worth the calcium and protein that I need. Obviously we can't totally eliminate carbs and yogurt is such a delicious treat that I'm not so wary of it as breads and pastas.
