Hi (and yes, you did post this at the end of your older thread about
fasting so I just deleted that one.) My OneTouch Ultra box says: "Do not use if expiration date has passed. Use within 6 months of
opening test strip vial.)
So, they are saying not to use the strips after the expiration date. The expiration date seems to be one year from the time we buy the box.
And they say you should use the strips in the vial within 6 months when you
open that vial. I have a box of 100 strips, 2 vials with 50 strips each. So if I
open one vial, I should use those strips within 6 months and then when I
open the second vial, I should use them within 6 months.
Now, personally if I had some strips left and it was past the 6 months, I'd use them anyway but I'm just answering as a regular person next door. If you ask a pharmacist, your doctor or LifeScan (the manufacturer) they might give you a different answer.
If one vial contains 50 strips, I don't see how it would be longer than 6 months to use them up. If you tested just once a day, that vial wouldn't even last 2 months anyway.
Also, I was checking around to compare the cost of these strips and although you might find them really cheaper on eBay (or another site), the reviews said that the boxes they received were ok and sealed but that their expiration dates were only a few months away from when they received them. So, they were still good, but you'd have to use them up fast before their expiration dates. Buyer beware.
