Something very strange is happening to my taste buds. I've always enjoyed green beans and early peas, but since I started metformin last year my taste for them has changed. They taste absolutely horrible and make me nauseous. I even get where I don't want meat. It will taste off to me.

I just can't eat cooked veggies any more. smhair

Fortunately I like raw veggies and can eat them.

I've lost 40 pounds since my taste buds decided to revolt on me last year.

Has anyone had metformin change their taste buds? confused

Also I've noticed black mold growing in my toliet for two months now. I've read this can happen to diabetics. Weird .....

What is ketones to us? I had to go to the UC the other night and the doctor mentioned my ketones were up.

Hi Joy, glad to see you again! I haven't had any taste changes since being on metformin but everyone may have different reactions - if it is the metformin at all, that is.

Ketones in the urine mean that you are losing fat as you are losing weight. There are ketone strips you can buy in a pharmacy to measure that. Lots of people do that to get on track for losing weight. Congratulations on the weight loss! This happens faster when the metformin is taken on a low-carb eating plan.

I don't know about the mold. If your blood sugar is controlled, you are not spilling blood sugar into the urine and as some people think that would encourage mold, if that's what you mean. Mold will come under the ring on any toilet, especially older ones. We've been going through replacing toilets in our house and that's what I've learned. Using a cleanser with bleach at least once a week will stop it. Good luck with that.

What your A1c now?

I got those ketone strips for like $15 from my pharmacy. It wasn't too bad and the results were quick.

I don't know, I've got to get it tested again.

The mold grows below the waterline. I keep a bleach tablet in my tank and scrub every week.

I bought ketones strips the other day. Now I just got to get used to using them.

I wasn't sure if it was me on the taste issue. I have a few (lot) of teeth that need taking out as some of
the fillings are 50 years old and thought that was messing with the food taste. Many things taste horrible
now and I don't do a lot of sugar as it tastes like kerosene. I tried doing lots less carbs and it didn't
change the sugar numbers. I take Glyburide for the diabetes and am also doing gymnema sylvester
along with RM-10 (a mushroom blend). It's down about 100 points but still have a long way to go.
How much of the keytones are good?? I'm doing a new blend with Raspberry Ketones in it and feel better.

I don't know about the altered taste of food, as I said. There could be other reasons like teeth, so make sure you're seeing your dentist regularly and having your teeth cleaned. Make sure you floss.

I don't know anything about "how much" ketones being good. I don't use the strips anymore. You might want to check out this website. I think there are folks there who use them: forum.lowcarber.org/index.php?

Thank you, Lanie. Wish I could afford a dentist...I'm looking into Military dental now but have to figure
out how to do it. Always floss and brush but the dr meds have caused so much dry mouth that it killed
my teeth. I also heard that that will change your sugar numbers. The herbs have helped lower them
but have a ways to go :)

I'll check out the link..........Nana
