Betsy, if you have a blood sugar meter, test your own blood sugar and keep records. Besides morning fasting, you should also test right before you eat and then about
two hours after you eat. This will tell you how you're metabolizing the food and
which food works well and which food doesn't. You will find that your blood sugar will be higher with carbs, which is why anyone with blood sugar problems should not eat any food made with sugar or flour.
Please check out the link in my signature - and share this with the family members who have diabetes. They would definitely benefit from the information there.
If you haven't already, I think you should also have an eye exam by an ophthalmologist who will test your eyes for pressure and be able to look behind the eye to make sure they are healthy. Everyone of a certain age whether or not they have diabetes should have those exams done once a year.
Also, remember that the A1c is an average, so it does not tell us what the highs were or what the lows were.
