Ok, so a while back I got a monitor and intermittently check my glucose levels. Finally I noticed my test strips expired 08 / 2016 ... no wonder I get funny numbers!

Anyway, my question is this -- how long are these things usually good for? I mean, I can go to the pharmacy and look at the expiration date, but maybe it's already been sitting on the shelf for months and I could get longer lasting ones from a pharmacy that sells more of them, right? I just don't know how long they might be good for.

If they're only good for a year, I don't want to buy 50, esp. if they've already been on the shelf for 6 months. See what I mean?

Incidentally, these are the CVS brand strips for the CVS glucose monitor.

Thanks for any opinions.

Hmm. My bottles have an expiration date on them. When I get them new, I'm pretty sure that date is about a year or maybe longer from the time I get them so I'm guessing the strips should be good for about 2 years? I really don't know. Sorry. There are no dates anywhere on the package or bottle?

Oh, they have an expiration date, I just didn't know how far out an expiration date one normally expects to find. So yours seem to have had a date about a year out from purchase. So you probably wouldn't buy any where the date is 3 months from purchase, as that would mean they'd been sitting on a shelf for 9 months. (See what I mean?)

So when I go shopping I'll look for an expiration date about a year out. Thanks.

Yep. Too long wonky numbers. Keep strong. Great post.
And same for insulin, useless after expiry, HT.

Yes, the CVS brand. I checked every box on the shelf and purchased the ones with the furthest out date. No way will I use all 50 of them between now and then, so if anyone wants about 30 of them.....just ask! lol

LOL. Fasting blood sugar with expired test strips.... 180 or so!!! Yikes.
Fasting blood sugar with new test strips... 97. Much more reasonable!

Make sure your test strips are still good, folks!
