Not exactly related to diabetes, but not unrelated, either.

I'd like to beef up my fiber intake. Bran flakes, etc. seem to make me more constipated rather than less (might be the milk doing that).

Are there any easy fiber sources that come to mind? Something that doesn't require much mixing or preparing, and is tasty and easy to consume. Metamucil Fiber Thins come to mind, but they are only 4 grams of fiber, and only soluble fiber...

I wouldn't mind some kind of powder that could be baked into some sort of breakfast bar, along with protein powder. Seems like a banana-oatmeal bar could be created... applesauce for sweetener.... dunno.

Would like to increase both soluble and insoluble fiber and the daily recommended amount is 25 grams daily. I do eat fruits and vegetables, but I'm sure I'm not getting enough. Suggestions welcomed!

If you're baking something, you could add wheat bran. I buy Bob's Red Mill at the supermarket. Sometimes it's in the baking/spice aisle or the 'organic' foods aisle. It's a good source of fiber. Flax seed meal is, too, but be careful about how much you add of this - I know every body handles fiber differently. Look for 'meal', not just flax seed because whole flax seeds will probably just go right through when digesting but the flax seed meal takes its time.

Vegetables that have a lot of fiber are corn, carrots and celery. Corn is a grain though and it and carrots are both high in fiber but also carbs, so be aware. If you like to much on celery, that's good...

Other factors that affect the need for fiber would be: amount of liquid/water you drink and also the amount of physical activity. And there's the website for nutrition where you search for fiber as well as other things in different kinds of food: https://nutritiondata.self.com/user/logout

Good luck!

I hope you can find something you like. In the past year I've been sauteing shredded cabbage (the kind you find in a bag for making cole slaw) with some some onions. It's filling and tasty and blends in well with any kind of meat or chicken, especially if you're heating up leftovers.

Yeah, beans... unfortunately most legumes have always made me gag, ever since I was a child. Once I was diagnosed with Lupus and learned about it, it seems a large percentage of Lupus patients have an actual physical allergy to legumes. Strange, right?

Thus it is strange, but i guess there has to be some correlation.
Makes for some good research! i have learnt something new.
I will keep thinking for other possibilities for ya. HT
