OK so I wonder if anyone else has discovered this...I have had heartburn/acid reflux for about 5 years...since my Type 2 dx in May, I have noticed a drastic change in the amount of nexium I have taken, or not taken...before dx, I took nexium almost daily, now, the last time i filled my perscription was at the end of may! So, does having my diabetes quazi under controll, change it?

I have acid reflux also and was put on Nexium. My wife was put on Protonix for her reflux. I ran out of Nexium and started taking her Protonix. Big difference in the two. The Protonix helped my acid reflux a lot more than the Nexium ever did.

about your question on the Nexium. Maybe the Nexium has healed your reflux problem. My Dr told me that I may be able to get off the Nexium as it could heal the problem. I don't think blood sugar levels affect the acid in your belly, but I could be wrong.

Of course having your blood sugar under control does make your body work better in all aspects and would allow you to heal faster.

I had pretty severe reflux and tried a number of meds, but when I was diagnosed type2 (and compusive overeater!1) I kept a diary and restricted my input (this time completely unmedicated ), and discovered that I had specific reflux trigger foods 1) pizza, 2) Ice cream and uncooked dairy products, 3) caine(speeling?) pepper-any!! and finally 4) white rice. After I eliminated these and restricted my idiotically previously giant intake ....reflux dissapeared.

But!! Later I tried small amoutns of each of these and ...1/2 hour later ...REFLUX!! more!!
