mad  Hello All:
Well, today brought an interesting roller-coaster ride with my bs. All was not bad until  2 hours after lunch when my sugar went all the way up to 383! It was really alarming to see that number, especially taking Byetta injections, Actos, and Metformin 1500 MG per day.
The interesting thing was I took a Glucotrol pill, (a whole one instead of a half when this happened, and then ended up with a bad hypoglycemic spell. Very strange. The Glucotrol brought it down way too fast and too much.
Anyone have an experience like this? And also with Glucotrol doing that? I'd like to hear if so.
This strange disease drives me nuts all the time and I never know what the heck it's going to do next!

Hi Jennifer,

Isn't it frustrating??!!!  Heres the deal.  Metformin and Actos are drugs that don't really stimulate your body to make insulin but rather enhance your ability to use it. (they basically chip away at your "resistance"). Likewise, Byetta, albeit enhancing your insulin production in response to increased blood sugar ALSO has an effect on your sensitivity to insulin.  So with all that going on from 3 different meds, all you have to do is drop a Glucotrol ( a pill aimed squarely at stimulating insulin production) and BANG!!! the other 3 meds kick in to enhance whatever insulin you produce with extra sensitivity.  AND suddenly, there you are with really low numbers.  Stick to the half dose, you just got a graphic example of why you should be on a half dose.

Thanks for your reply Warren! I knew you would know what was going on here.

It is truly a frustrating disease to have, as you never know what is going to happen next.

I'm going to stick to the half a Glucotrol and think that will help me a lot. Then I see my doctor on Tuesday and will talk about this with him.
