Hi there,
Can anyone tell me what medications are available to treat insulin resistance.  I've gone through the whole diet and exercise thing, but want things to move faster.  I am on no mediation whatsoever.  I've read about using metmorfin.  I am not diabetic yet.  I am still very overweight.  Can someone please help?

Greetings Geo, welcome to the forum.  What has your doctor said?  What are your blood sugar readings?  Do you have a monitor?  How do you know that you have insulin resistance?  Your doctor is the person who should guide you.  Generally speaking, people who are not considered diabetic yet try using diet and exercise, which is what I'm doing myself.  My doctor was concerned about high morning fasting readings and now I test my blood sugar everyday with a monitor.  I streamlined my diet to eliminate most carbs and increased the vegetables.  I also exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes.  Losing weight can help lower your readings, and I hope that's what you're doing.  Changing your diet (I don't know what you're eating though.) and exercising on a regular basis will help you lose weight.  All this should help lower your blood sugar.  Start off with talking to your doctor.  Hope this little bit helps.

There are no magic pills. Metformin has plenty of side effects.

Eliminating body fat (so that your waist gets smaller), building muscle,  and eating a diet rich in fruits, veggies, nuts, heart healthy fats, and complex carbs is the way to defeat insulin resistance. Your body will thank you by stabilizing your blood sugars, lowering your blood pressure and improving your lipid profile- you'll probably look better in your clothes too.

Lanie gave you some great advice! Best of luck to you!
