im a type one, and over the past few weeks i have been having problems with my night time readings. I generally eat around 7:30 and im generally within my range two hours after. However my blood sugar goes high by 11pm and will stay like that for a few hours but is always fine in the morning. Just wondering does anyone have any advice on this??

Hi Sunflower,

Are you on a pump or MDI? Most pumpers I know can program/adjust their basal rate to compensate for that but, if you're like me and on two injections a day of Levemir (long-acting basal insulin).... I may have an idea why you go high.

For me that high period was the gap between my morning shot wearing off and my evening shot not quite kicking in yet. One way I compensate (with the "poor man's pump"), is to always take a shot of Rapid with my evening snack. I do take 5-7 shots of insulin a day but the control is worth it for me.

Knowing a bit more about your regimen would help. Keep us posted :-)

Hi Phishbowl,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes i am on levemir twice daily too, and novorapid with meals. I generally dont have an evening snack because i eat dinner late anyway.  I have tried increasing my morning levemir but i find that i have to eat snacks during the day to avoid hypos. I might start taking my evening levemir earlier and see what effect it has on my morning readings, I'll let you know how it goes,
