Just curious about something..........
Having Chrohns disease I have been forced to drink some of the most vile concoctions on the planet........
I hate it...........the tests are worse than the disease, in my opinion........
If I do a glucose tolerance test, what kind a nasty, putrid, vile liquids am I going to have to drink? Please be as descriptive as possible.....leave nothing out........

Hi Joey, well, the nasty liquid is a glucose solution usually in an orange or other "flavor".  It might even resemble cola but it is not any kind of soft drink.  It's rather syrupy and sickeningly sweet.  You'll be doing this the first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything (sorry, no latte when you get up that day).  They'll take a blood sample.  You'll drink that solution within a few minutes, usually within 5 minutes.  They'll take your blood again usually after an hour and then again after another hour.  Some OGTT tests are 3 hours, so you might want to ask if yours is 2 or 3 hours.  Bring something to read because you'll have to stay there.  They don't want you walking around during the test.  When they take your blood after 2 hours, you can go home.  That's it.  Depending on your test results, they'll tell you if you are normal, borderline or diabetic because each has its own parameters.  Good luck.

Do you like Southern style sweet tea? It's just as sweet without the bitter tea behind it. Very sweet, but not vile at all- just syrupy because the sugar is so concentrated.
good luck!

Hey Gen.
The stuff they give you to drink is no where near as bad as the crap we have had to put up with. Go in with total fast, no coffee nothing. It is worth it for one day to get a good test outta it. After the test treat yourself to one of those expensive latte's sit back and enjoy the fact you didn't have to a colonoscopy prep!
