Hi everyone.
I am 35 years old, adn have had epilepsy all my life.  As a young child like 3 years old.  I have had Complex Partial szs since then.  I also have auras as well.  My auras are of the epigastric type and olfactory as well.  I smell urine.
Once an aura starts I have about 30 seconds before a sz hits.
But last sept I got lucky and got a VNS and am now doing VERY well.   I have gone from 10-12 szs aday every day practically to 5-7 every 2 months between my appts.
Now I can swipe my wrist magnet across the VNS and I can abort auras and szs.  My amps are at 2.25 adn he is done turing it up.  I have a really great adn supportive neuro and would not trade him for the world.
Granted IF I am paying attention to it.  Sometimes I miss it and get to teh sz phase adn then somone else will haveto use the extra magnet and swipe it for me.
I have 2 kids also with Epilepsy.  They are 10 adn 12.
youngestwith early on-set JME and oldest with classic Grand Mal epilepsy.
I used to work in a monitoring unit, but had to give it up more thana year ago becuae of my kids having togo through the revolving doors of the EMU, and my VNS surgery and recovery from that.
I live in PHX, AZ.
Hotter than heck here but I love the desert way of life.

Hi there and Welcome to HealingWell!

Thank you so much for introducing yourself and for sharing your story with us. I have to be honest, whilst I had heard about VNS and the basics about how it worked INSIDE the body, i knew very little about what people did with it so I am grateful for your expertise in the area and helping to teach me something new!

Im Darren, age 23 and a Masters Psychology student from Bangor, UK. I have had epilepsy for 10(ish) years and am hoping to regain my driving licence in March after I wrote my car off in June 2006.

I hope to hear more from you!
