Hi guys,
I'm new to this being epileptic caper and I was wondering - how do you find out what it is that triggers a fit in you?
I have a theory that it might be repetitive noise that sets me off but how would I go about finding out?

Hi Gordee
Start keeping a seizure diary every time you have a seizure that can be very helpful in letting you see a pattern in the triggers...good luck!!

It can be different for everyone....Keeping a journal is a great idea to figure what yours are...

some common ones, Lack of sleep, illness, infection, alcohol, drug interaction (Like taking over the counter cold stuff....), not eating well, skipping meds, not taking them at a consistent time or as doctor tells you. Some people are sensitive to flickering lights or video games....

You will figure it out as you go.....

I would think keeping a journal or diary or something like that would be the best way to find a pattern. Also, let others you are around know that you are looking for what triggers your seizures, sometimes they might be able to tell you more in some cases. Hope that helps! and welcome to the forum! ~Jessica

Hmmm, repetitive noise... that never set off a seizure in me, but flickering lights do sometimes. I agree with the others. A journal is a good idea. Sometimes, a trigger is very obvious. Sometimes it is delayed. For me, for example, a seizure would occur on the 4th-5th day of a medication change but no sooner. And I would always get one the day before my period. So... you might have to do a little detective work before you figure out if you have any direct triggers. For me, half of my seizures don't really have a direct trigger that I can pinpoint... just the way it goes! Glenda

Hi Gordee,
Welcome... I read your post and wanted to refer you to a good website that someone else posted for me, it has a lot of great information. Numerous different types of seizures and such. It helped me to determine the style of seizure I'm presently having, which really put my mind at ease. Check it out you may find it to be very helpful.
Educating yourself and keeping a diary is the first steps most of us had to take. As much as we think the medical profession cares about doesn't always seem to turn out that way. Our friend is a
Dr. and the best advise he ever gave us was....tell your Dr., listen I want you to know this is not the way I normally feel and here's what's going on....then tell him.
Hope it gives you some answers, as it did for me.

Hi ....I just thought of another big trigger for me lately...the weather! I live in Canada and when the barometric pressure drops ie (snow storm) I feel way off for a few days and have this may/may not be a trigger for you. Good luck! :-) By the way for anyone that does suffer from this there is another snow storm on the way tomorrow -another 15 cm. or so- yippee!
