Hi everyone,
I am a co-moderator in the Chronic Pain forum and really need some help for you guys. To give you a short summary of my background: I am a 42 y/o wife, mother and grandmother. I suffer from severe degenerative disk disease, failed back syndrome, spinal stenosis, spinal compression, fibromyalgia, acute myopathy and neuropathy. I have had 9 back surgeries including 2 major spinal recontructive surgeries and fusions at the L3-S1 levels.
I have a Medtronic Intrathecal Pain Pump implanted into my abdomen and the catheter is located at the C3 level. My pump delivers 8.25mg of morphine, baclofen and bupivicaine on a daily basis. (1mg of medication delivered through the pump is equal to 300mgs orally).  In addition, I take 15mg Morphine x4/daily, 300mg Neurontin x1/daily, 40mg Paxil x1daily, and .5mg Xanax x4/daily.
Since October 19, 2005 I have been "passing out".  The back of my neck gets extremely hot and then the next thing I know I have people yelling my name at me, rubbing my sternum and sticking smelling salts under my nose.  I wake up confused, begin to cry and I am then just totally exhausted.  Nothing has changed in my life, diet, medication etc., but I have been feeling "spider webby" on my arms and face.  It actually feels like I am pulling spider webs off of my face and arms; however, there is nothing in my hands.
I continued to pass out and referred to a neurosurgeon on October 26th. (Come to find out my doctors staff sent me to the wrong doc...I was suppose to go to a Neurologist instead).  After speaking with the neurosurgeon he decided he wanted to admit me to the hospital for testing and for my safety as well, due to falling when I pass out.
In the hospital I had tests done on my head, heart and spine.  They cannot find out what is going on and why I am passing out.  I was discharged on Sunday, October 30th, with the diagnosis of: "Fainting - unknown reason".
Have any of you heard of such a thing?  Does it sound like seizures?  At the hospital I saw an Internal Medicine doc, Neurosurgeon, Cardiologist and Neurologist.  I am really concerned and do not know where to go from here.
Any suggestions?
Lot's of gentle hugs!
Your friend,

Hi, sorry for everything you're going through.  Sounds like you got a thorough workup while you were in the hospital.  You didn't say whether or not you had one of the passing out episodes while you were in the hospital or not.  I assume that your heart was being monitored while you were a patient and you had a lot of blood work too.

What doctor are you suppose to follow up with now that you are out of the hospital?    You didn't say what other people observed about you when you had a fainting episode.  Seizures don't typically look like a person passing out.  You may not remember what you look like during one of these episodes, so if someone witnessed one or more episodes, they can tell you if you had any jerking, unusual movements of your arms/legs,  confusion, odd behavior,...  It's after the seizure is over that a lot of people are tired and go to sleep.  The spider web feeling sounds unusual.  I don't know what that is all about.
