Thanks to everyone who has offered their advise and well wishes to us.
A special thanks to Stephanie for giving me support thru email.
Well,we tried the Topamax for 1 day and ended up in the ER. The doc that we HAD didn't instruct us to wean her off of the Keppra. His words were to stop the Keppra and start Topamax.
The new doc said that was a no-no. He has started her on Depakote sprinkles. She has been on it for 1 week. I would say that the seizures have reduced by 50%. The Depakote was increased today to 125 mgs 3 times a day. I hope she continues to do as well with the increase (from 125 mgs 2 times a day) as she has been doing.
I have found this epilepsy diagnosis to be harder than the diagnosis of Down syndrome. I feel like I keep reading the same info over and over again. There seem to be so many unknowns about the disorder. I have been so worried about the medications hindering her development. All the while she has started walking in the past 2 weeks. She is truly an amazing little girl.
I now know that we will get through this. Hopefully we are on hte right track with the Depakote.
If anyone has any thing to share about depakote good or bad I would like to hear it. Again thanks to you all.

P.S we have an appt. with the new doc in a few weeks (we hav only seen him in the ER)
At that time I hope to get a better explaination of her diagnosis and EEG.

Hi Donna I am sorry you are going through so much. my daughter is 4 years old 50 lbs. & was just diagnosed with epilepsy in Nov. she also is on Depakote sprinkles she started out the same way 125 mg 2xs a day needless to say we are up to 1000mgs a day & still having 3-6 seizures a day it seems strange they cut down dramatically at the first increase but now there is no change I have to call to update the dr. this week she said if it didnt work they are going to put her on another med as well I forgot to mention her depakote level was 97 & they still increased it because people tolerate it differently anyway the worse thing Ive notice so far is she is very hyper I cant get her to go to bed at night which is not good for the seizures, a little bit of hair loss not much yet but to my understanding as long as you start slow & work your way up on Depakote it is one of the safest meds for children?.  if you want to drop me an email you may get my address from my profile Have a great day & enjoy your little Alainas footsteps!
