This really is the £64,000 question. There have been many different theories linking epilepsy and genetics. None of them are particularly well founded. Some people believe it skips a generation, some people don't even believe there is a genetic link to be found. In short, nobody really knows. I can tell you that my mum has epilepsy but her parents do not. So im not sure where it came from in our family but it didnt skip my generation. Im sorry I can't provide you with more concrete answers than that. An internet search may give you some research papers but beware as many of them contradict each other. Currently, everything is about
as clear as mud.
